And tractors occasionally getting their tyre treads caught in the tracks and causing a shutdown of all rail north of Inverness for an afternoon

Then back for another load to get....



Had my eldest help me, no-one died, drank water.

The thunderstorm when we woke up filled the pond to the brim and kept the ducks happy so was a nice surprise.

Our bedroom was 30c at 11pm. I don’t mind being warm, but it was a bit much. Still 28.5 when I was woken by thunder at 4:30

Saw a peak of 38c in the car on the way home at around 5:30, 10° warmer than the hot but pleasant 28 of the day before.

I think I’ll be waiting until people have forgotten about the heatwave and buy a portable unit, I now know a few people with units in the £200-£300 range who are impressed with them.

To be fair to this guy, his garden was not well managed and he inherited a right mess of trees killing the ground and fighting each other.

When we move it will be where we have our own small wood and I can manage and chop down what I need to keep it all healthy.

A good wood pile is better than parking a Bentleybout the front

I was going to go for a drive out to a breakfast meet, but I’ve never been before and the only place a phone mount goes completely blocks the old air vent which provides meaningful cool air

I have an old thermostat in my van, internal temperature hit 43C yesterday. Which was fun, in a vehicle with no air conditioning

I suggested to my son yesterday that we put the tent up! That said - outside air temperature only dipped to 19.9 degrees last night at 5.30am and was up over 23 degrees at 2am still

I will say, the downstairs part of my house has been a godsend - it's been consistently below 30deg all week, mainly because it's east facing and has no south facing windows.

The upstairs though, with it's terrible insulation, has been north of 35deg any time between about 10am and midnight because the roof just soaks up the heat, and the shitty attic insulation just lets it straight through.

Sleep has not come easy, when it has come.

As per Harry, I think I'll pick up one of them there portable AC things soon, especially given that a week or two like this is just The Norm in summer now.

It’s starting to cool down up here but the big stone walls of my building have stored up so much thermal energy it’s now noticeably hotter in my flat than outside
