Re: The Weather Thread.
I used to live in a former station house (like, when I was four) and we had nothing as fancy as that - just big, long gates.

Re: The Weather Thread.
It was a pretty small shaft so I didn’t want to break it off.
How about not having a sig at all?
Re: The Weather Thread.
Climate change cunts getting hardons over this. Utter bollocks.
A good day to see someone had chopped some trees down on Facebook. So 45 minutes later did this....

Then back for another load to get....

Had my eldest help me, no-one died, drank water.
The thunderstorm when we woke up filled the pond to the brim and kept the ducks happy so was a nice surprise.
Dave!

The responsible thing to do is to store those logs for eternity so the carbon remains locked up. Otherwise you’ll join that list with Pol Pot and Elon for killing people.

Carbon capture, it's what saves all the bunnies.Mito Man wrote: Fri Jun 26, 2026 8:29 pm The responsible thing to do is to store those logs for eternity so the carbon remains locked up. Otherwise you’ll join that list with Pol Pot and Elon for killing people.

The responsible thing is to not chop down living trees tbh
The best way to keep your local environment cooler is to have tree coverage.

I always thought the way to make local environment cooler was to wear leather jackets and sunglasses and sit around smoking Marlboro lights
Re: The Weather Thread.
I thought it's to put AC units outside. Hopefully this doesn't put us into the next ice age.

Re: The Weather Thread.
They look more like evaporative coolers than ac units
Our bedroom was 30c at 11pm. I don’t mind being warm, but it was a bit much. Still 28.5 when I was woken by thunder at 4:30
Saw a peak of 38c in the car on the way home at around 5:30, 10° warmer than the hot but pleasant 28 of the day before.
I think I’ll be waiting until people have forgotten about the heatwave and buy a portable unit, I now know a few people with units in the £200-£300 range who are impressed with them.

To be fair to this guy, his garden was not well managed and he inherited a right mess of trees killing the ground and fighting each other.ZedLeg wrote: Fri Jun 26, 2026 10:20 pm The responsible thing is to not chop down living trees tbh

When we move it will be where we have our own small wood and I can manage and chop down what I need to keep it all healthy.
A good wood pile is better than parking a Bentleybout the front

I’ve mentioned before but I’d like to have a scrap of land to rewild as native rainforest.

It was still 32°C in my bedroom when I woke up
sleep was dodgy to say the least. Thankfully I have a little garden to cool off by having brekky outside

I was going to go for a drive out to a breakfast meet, but I’ve never been before and the only place a phone mount goes completely blocks the old air vent which provides meaningful cool air
Can’t be bothered, too sticky.

Re: The Weather Thread.
I have an old thermostat in my van, internal temperature hit 43C yesterday. Which was fun, in a vehicle with no air conditioning
Re: The Weather Thread.
I suggested to my son yesterday that we put the tent up! That said - outside air temperature only dipped to 19.9 degrees last night at 5.30am and was up over 23 degrees at 2am still
Re: The Weather Thread.
I will say, the downstairs part of my house has been a godsend - it's been consistently below 30deg all week, mainly because it's east facing and has no south facing windows.
The upstairs though, with it's terrible insulation, has been north of 35deg any time between about 10am and midnight because the roof just soaks up the heat, and the shitty attic insulation just lets it straight through.
Sleep has not come easy, when it has come.
As per Harry, I think I'll pick up one of them there portable AC things soon, especially given that a week or two like this is just The Norm in summer now.

Re: The Weather Thread.
It’s starting to cool down up here but the big stone walls of my building have stored up so much thermal energy it’s now noticeably hotter in my flat than outside
