Lol at the Park Run WR fact, incredible

Re: Running
Six of them were together up until 30k, and it was only the last 2k where he got any time on Kejelcha.DeskJockey wrote: Mon Apr 27, 2026 9:07 am Didn't see Vettel's time, but the sub-2h times are just incredible. Sawe was faster from 30-35k than the park run world record.
Astonishing feats, and up there with Roger Bannister's record.
And Kipruto who was 4th still became the 6th fastest runner of all time, 8th fastest time https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marathon#Men

Re: Running
Absolutely a historic moment, a mind blowing achievement. I was watching it on BBC and the commentators at 30k were saying they were on course for just over 2 hours. However once Sawe and Kejelcha started pushing and the finish time prediction dropped under 2 hours it was real edge of seat stuff! Amazing to see, there's long been a debate whether sub-2 really was possible. Kelvin Kiptim was so close before he died, but this bunch have totally powered through it. Sawe has knocked something like 2 mins off his marathon time in a year. Wonder what he could do at Berlin or somewhere with a faster course too.

Yes, was about to point out that the London course isn't known for being fast.

I do find it genuinely mind bending > if I set the treadmill to 13mph, the magnitude of averaging this for 2hrs (13.11mph actually) is genuinely difficult to believe.

Re: Running
That's actually really impressive from Mark, he was in good shape then, most people probably can't even sprint at this speed
Re: Running
4:35 a mile for 26
I never use treadmills so have no real idea how fast I run but used one last week in a hotel gym. Standard jog for most of it then set the speed for a short ‘sprint’ at about 13mph, probably no more than a minute. How they manage 2hrs of that is beyond me.
Re: Running
I watch his Welsh farm videos, never watched his previous stuff. Quite enjoyed this one.Gavster wrote: Mon Apr 27, 2026 9:57 am That's actually really impressive from Mark, he was in good shape then, most people probably can't even sprint at this speed![]()
As for sprinting at that speed, fuck no. Just seeing the profile view of him running I'd need a heck of a lot more technique and longer legs
On a treadmill presumably it's a little easier than running a marathon because you don't have the wind resistance, which is going to be a real factor at 13mph.

Re: Running
That's a good point, I guess it would be easier on the treadmill, just trying to keep up with the ground running underneath you, rather than moving with a 13mph headwind.Jobbo wrote: Mon Apr 27, 2026 10:26 amI watch his Welsh farm videos, never watched his previous stuff. He's a brilliant inspiration for fitness and working out, because his ethos was simply being above average. Admittedly, he took the 'above average' idea a bit too far, getting really serious about Hyrox, but at least he did it in a self-depreciating way

Re: Running
Been getting back on the running horse, but trying to do things really differently this time because I've always struggled with recovery due to getting brain fog which gets in the way of life.
The big change is pre/post session fuelling and hydration. Our brains run on glucose, so any brain fog (rather than just being a bit tired) could well be a fuelling issue. Tracking calories to ensure there's enough fuel for the bigger sessions, but also providing enough post-run to get my brain up and running quickly and also to limit any effects on the central nervous system. That looks like simple carbs 60-90 mins before a session, then more simple carbs + a bit of protein within 30 mins of finishing session to clear lactate and calm central nervous system. After that, a big meal within 1-2 hours.
Also hydration, I know this is an obvious one, however i've always been a sweaty boi, so did a sweat calcuation and turns out I lose 2l per hour, which is right at the top end of fluid loss through sweat. Means that my usual habit of drinking 2 x 500ml drinks shortly after a run is nowhere near sufficient after a 1 hour workout. Although it's not necessarily a 1:1 thing to replace it, I should have been drinking wayyyy more than I ever have.

I like that you are unable to not science things. I just run and listen to music.
