Didn't see Vettel's time, but the sub-2h times are just incredible. Sawe was faster from 30-35k than the park run world record.

Astonishing feats, and up there with Roger Bannister's record.

Six of them were together up until 30k, and it was only the last 2k where he got any time on Kejelcha.

Absolutely a historic moment, a mind blowing achievement. I was watching it on BBC and the commentators at 30k were saying they were on course for just over 2 hours. However once Sawe and Kejelcha started pushing and the finish time prediction dropped under 2 hours it was real edge of seat stuff! Amazing to see, there's long been a debate whether sub-2 really was possible. Kelvin Kiptim was so close before he died, but this bunch have totally powered through it. Sawe has knocked something like 2 mins off his marathon time in a year. Wonder what he could do at Berlin or somewhere with a faster course too.

I do find it genuinely mind bending > if I set the treadmill to 13mph, the magnitude of averaging this for 2hrs (13.11mph actually) is genuinely difficult to believe.

4:35 a mile for 26

I never use treadmills so have no real idea how fast I run but used one last week in a hotel gym. Standard jog for most of it then set the speed for a short ‘sprint’ at about 13mph, probably no more than a minute. How they manage 2hrs of that is beyond me.

As for sprinting at that speed, fuck no. Just seeing the profile view of him running I'd need a heck of a lot more technique and longer legs

On a treadmill presumably it's a little easier than running a marathon because you don't have the wind resistance, which is going to be a real factor at 13mph.

That's a good point, I guess it would be easier on the treadmill, just trying to keep up with the ground running underneath you, rather than moving with a 13mph headwind.

He's a brilliant inspiration for fitness and working out, because his ethos was simply being above average. Admittedly, he took the 'above average' idea a bit too far, getting really serious about Hyrox, but at least he did it in a self-depreciating way
