I've always sort of been in the "Why cut off our nose top spite our face" camp but given his recent behaviour, it seems apparent that Britain could concede and concede and concede but the very first time we don't want to do what he's demanding then BAM!!! 500% tariffs...

I'm inclined to tell him to GTF these days...
Exactly, we’re watching him embezzle his own economy. We should be trying to untangle ourselves from it before the house of cards comes down.
Well everybody should be really, it's the wake up call we've probably needed for a while to be honest. Far too many eggs in one basket.

Not the work of a minute to unpick the interaction, and also foolish to remove them entirely as a source of trade, but the aim should be to be strong enough to stand on our own (independent of any of the big nations) and tell anyone that goes rogue to GTF.

I mean, members of his own support base have tried to assassinate him, but I don't see Hegseth dropping Daisycutters on Bumfuck, Kentucky

So we just have to scrap net zero, get farming back on track, energy prices back on track, manufacturing back on track.

All the things Labour are actively fucking up at the minute.

“First battleship sunk by a torpedo since ww2”

As long as you ignore the Falklands. But yeah, the US didn’t want to help us then.

Suez Crisis. Anyway there’s no special relationship. They need to stop shouting that nonsense every day.

Depends what you mean.. I fly with people who flew aircraft that only US and UK armed forces saw, we have cross training that supports and improves both our armed forces lethality. Donald Trump is POTUS for one term only (hopefully) and we have built a relationship over decades of common interest.. a 4 year set back is not sufficient imho from what people have sacrificed to achieve. The USA is not one person and I hope that will be apparent sooner rather than later.
Cheers,

The Special Relationship is good, but it’s not that special, Canada were Americas “Closest Relations”, France are Americas “Oldest ally”, etc…

ie. its special until it’s not in the US’s interest.

I've seen a few Iranian videos claiming the Israel and the US killed 400 people with its targeted strikes.

The Islamic Republic killed 100x more in Han alone.

Hopefully some accurate numbers come out at some point so everyone can see why you see huge groups cheering in the streets and praising America.

The bit you're failing to recognise is the number of people that will die when inevitably some other oppressor takes over or there's a civil war over who should rule. You think it's likely that it's just going to spring into a peaceful democracy in a matter of weeks?

Nobody in charge of this war gives a shit about Iranian lives. Israel would happily do the same to Iran as it did to Palestine and turn it into a pile of bodies and rubble just so they no longer had to feel threatened by it.

You might care about Iranian lives, but it seems like you're expecting a different outcome here than all the other middle eastern conflicts, and it's not like we've now got someone much smarter running the war so it's hard to imagine why you'd have that expectation.

Yeah, the talk is that Khamenei’s son that’ll be put in charge. Israel’s response was to say “we’ll just kill him too”.

Add that apparently the US is burning through munitions at an unsustainable rate and can’t even threaten people into increasing production because they’ve ruined their supply chain.

It’s all setting up to be another Middle Eastern shitshow for the world policr.

Apparently polymarket is taking bets on when a nuclear strike will happen.

Which seems bad and I wish the guillotine for everyone taking part in that.

That’s nothing. Loads of bets went in on the timing of the first strike, with the timing of the bets strongly suggesting insider knowledge

I do think there will be a much better outcome than we expect due to how the Iranians are working so well together.

Look at the marches in America, giving flowers to policemen and women and cleaning g up after themselves. I think this is a huge push and will get the government control they deserve.

This isn't angry rabbles firing AKs in the air and being psychotic, this is a controlled pus back to the regime.

It would not surprise me, the guy with his finger on the button would do it just to say he was the first president since WW2 to press the button. I genuinely believe he would enjoy doing it and be excited by it.
