Not my words; the words of Evo magazine.

She did veto one car entirely from the whole process - the Nissan Qashquai - which was fine by me.

What were we all driving at that age?

I had a 89 G reg red Mini City automatic
Mk2 RS2000, 2.1 litre Pinto, BVH, 285 cam with twin 44idfs and an E.A.R.S. single box system.

Insurance can be a stinger these days, my eldest is due to start driving in 6 months
Mine starts in June - he wants a Ford Fiesta, and has saved £1800 already from his job. I'm going to equal it and pay half the insurance (which is about £500 each fully comp*). His driving lessons are from his Grandparents.. we have no cars that are useful for teaching him how to drive. Think we may buy it from BCA, so he can really get a sweat on! :D

*fully comp is cheaper than 3rd party, F&T! :|

When I was 20, I went from a Vauxhall Cavalier 1.7TDi to a CLK320. I was doing my flying licence, and did VMax events most weeks when the airfield closed at night. Used to open the sunroof and see what freefall felt like: Good times....
Cheers,

Ian

At 20 I had my Scirocco, then got my R19 16v at about 21. I don’t think I paid less than a grand a year insurance for quite a few years...

I got away with paying relative peanuts (£350, then £320) for the first 2 years on my Mito, figured out a bug with the ComparetheMarket site where with one provider you could change your details just before checkout but it wouldn’t change your details on the final confirmation page, only the price would change to reflect the new information - hence a quick fiddle with DOB and driving experience later saved me about £2k over the 2 years. My DOB and driving licence details were correct on the final policy.
Sadly they patched it by the third year but the insurance was reasonable by then.
How about not having a sig at all?

The in laws have the same colour and model Juke but with a petrol engine. They seem to like it but they are in their 80s :D

My car at 20 was a Fiat Mirafiori Sport.

Nope, I know the exact colour/wheels you mean though. Mine was a black phase 1 with turbine type wheels (and yellow fog lights!)

Like this but black and with less Nigel Mansells.

Sorry, going to need a screenshot of your quote on that.

I bought a brand new Saxo VTR when I was that age it came with 2 years “Free” insurance. Which replaced my 1.6 Zetec Escort. It was a nice metallic blue colour with graphite grey and RS 5 spokes. Looked great. Was mechanicaly fucked.

The car yes, but you?

I've always liked the look of the 19 cabrio with it's lack of roll bar and the double bubble rear deck 8-)

Chrysler Avenger 1.3 that was my grandad's, converted from auto to manual by my Dad and bought from them by me for £350. Nice RWD first car. I added some very dodgy cosmetic updates (red hammerite wheels and pinstripe on the white car, for example). Would make a great rally car now for £1000s, probably. Sold to a neighbour who had a garage and garden full of Avengers (mostly older Hillmans) and bits, who then crashed it into a bin lorry (escaping injury, in his words, because he wasn't wearing a seat belt).
Left over crest; tightens.

At 20 I think I was still driving the Peugeot 104ZL. It wasn't until I was 21 that I got a Mk2 Escort.

1989 AX GT. Cracking car, weighed about the same as a shoe box and probably similar crash protection. Fitted a Kenwood tapedeck that if you pressed a button the backlight changed from green to orange. Only £100 extra for that feature.

Also some kenwood 6x9s in the shelf. Wish I had kept it, they are worth decent money now.
