Theres a couple of Mk1 Ka's which live a few roads away from me. Also had a Mk1 Modeo Estate join the motorway by me at the black pool jct on the M6 on Friday. The woman driving tried to wipe me out twice by driving half in my lane. Thank fuck for the hard shoulder.

My first car was a Renault 5. There used to be loads of them about.
Presumably they’ve all been crashed by teenagers now or scrapped for engine problems which weren’t worth fixing

I used to see a really tidy R5 in Edinburgh on Zender Turbos. Looked ace.
I'm always amazed when you see a car you wouldn't expect to see any more driving around. I saw a really basic spec Mk4 Escort the other day, it looked brand new.

What are you hoping those figures to say? “Figures” say they produced 350k x types worldwide over 8 years, and from what I can see they’re selling around 40k XEs a year, so pretty close to the Xtype - which is pretty good in this far more SUV focused market today.

The howmanyleft links (derived from official DVLA registration figures) show that in the UK there were well over twice as many X Types on the road than the XE.

Evidently, they were 2/3x more popular back then.

Yes, because now they have more models in their range and therefore can't prioritise production to one particular model.
That combined with economic climates not being identical mean that The Figures are meaningless as a basis for comparison.
However, you can both feel free to continue arguing. It's great fun to watch.

You realise this was because I said you see less XE's on the road than X Types. Nothing more.

It's a completely different market than in the early 2000s, more fragmented, different finance patterns, fewer company cars, different competative landscape etc. It's hard to make a realistic comparison.

Being very specific, none of my old cars exist any more. I scrapped the Primera and Saab. Both BMWs went (3 series first, then the shitty 5 series) to the scrapheap after I sold them. Amazingly, the 166 survived longest which is a miracle as it was fucked when I traded it for the even more fucked 5 series.
