You're not fooling us - that's a different reggie number :ugeek:
BASTARD *SHAKES FIST*
I'd be impressed if it still wore R2CWS, which is on the X5 parked in front!
I still have the MT55WTN plates that I took off when doing the plate transfer.

You got me thinking about R2CWS -
I've had it since 2008, when I bought an £800 part exchange blue E36 323i that had worn it from new. After that it went on:

1999 E46 328i (blue)
2005 E91 325i Touring (in the photo)
2013 F30 335i (black)
2010 Jag XFR (black)
2018 Discovery Sport 240 (blue)
2008 X5 4.8iS (grey)

HPi checks used to show recent private plate history when you checked a car, but that seems to have disappeared over the years.
I got mine in 2001 - its been on 12 cars.

That's either a:

1) *very* large software package
2) seriously slow connection
3) very under-specced processor/RAM in the ECU
Or
4) all of the above.

:D

Very frustrating though. Is he getting a courtesy car?

Jimexpl wrote: Sun Dec 14, 2025 7:42 pm Not my current fleet, but I parked behind Tate Modern today to pick up my daughter and when I returned to the car a 325 touring was parked behind, which was my wife’s car 2012-5, and I think we sold it on Autotrader to someone in Somerset.

What are the chances of that?!
That's pretty cool.

I haven't an anecdote quite like that but I did own a forest green 323i e36 BMW with number plate P782 KKP and then years after I sold it walked by another 3 series near where I lived with the exact same reg but a letter different at the end. Presumably they were sister cars and at some point were sat next to each other being registered.

They said the update will take 16 hours but I think they were trying to get us to bring it back at a later date so am hoping they will get it done overnight sooner rather than later!

They didn't give him courtesy car yesterday as again they were trying to fob us off on the basis he is 18 and their insurance wont cover him, I've since read that as long as he is 18 and had a full driving licence for over 12 month he is entitled to one so will press them later!

They're not keen on return business, are they?

Didn't a JLR product have a similar issue ? It would lose connection mid update and then brick the car ?

Modern cars, just no.

Dave!

MOT time for the Yeti. Failed, but only on a drop link so that should get sorted tomorrow. Now on 72k miles, 64k of which with us, over the last 11 1/2 years.

I got mine in 2001 as well and it’s been on 9.

Due to some required plate-swapping to get one we’d bought into our names not the seller’s, the R5 plate comes up as an MX5 when you type it into Blackcircles. And the MX5 plate confuses it.

Ooh, interesting question. I think I got my plate in 1999, or maybe earlier.
540i, 306, CLK, Megane, Fabia, so 5.

TFL took £5.5k out of my account today because their system didn't recognise that the plate I've put on the Belingo is a ULEZ compliant vehicle, even though it was automatically recognised on my CC London account page, so they've been charging me £300 a day to drive it...

Some motorhome owners have had a similar daily charge shock after entering London in non compliant motorhomes.

My van wouldn’t start this morning, i think it’s just weak battery - the Volt meter on the tracker has it at 11.9v… I’ll give it a jump at the weekend and see if it’s just that, then probably a new battery. I’m driving the 320d instead, which is still a nice drive.

Even if it was warm/dry i couldn’t take the elise anyway because i need to move the van to get it off the driveway!

11.9v is pretty much dead

yeah, it just started the night before to get back from work thankfully then nothing this morning (cabin electrics were fine). I’ll try the jump cables to see if everything else works fine.

Mito felt a bit squishy when I chucked it around the last roundabout before home. Drove it steadily the last mile or so. Front left tyre definitely very low, but not completely flat.

Had about 20psi in it. Jacked it up, given it a good look over, pumped it up and sprayed it with soapy water and can’t see anything wrong.

Will see what it’s like in the morning.

Ouch! Hopefully they will process the complaint and refund quickly.

I’ve just had this with both my works van and my car- unfortunately not at home and both left me stranded. Car was original battery which was 5 years old, van was purchased in 2019 so is a minimum of 6 years old, so both just got new batteries rather than fucking around trying to save them and ending up stuck again

I’ve just bought one of those cheap jump pack adapters for tool batteries. If they’re any good it’ll be handier than messing with jump leads and having another car in the right place, and may just stick it in whatever car I’m commuting or going on a longer journey in.

If a battery is under 10 years old I’ll keep sticking that bastard on the charger and pressing the ‘boost’ button until it works or it blows

Balls, i stuck the jump leads on it and still no joy. i’ve called the AA to see if they can spot anything easy.
