Standard fitment on GTSs and GT3s. You could select a non-centre lock but got much worse looking wheels so practically nobody did.

Currently sat in the passenger seat of a recovery truck going quite a bit slower than planned back home…

Yeah, I don’t think it makes a difference. I thought standard procedure on any car which doesn’t have a spare and can’t be patched at the side of the road is a full recovery truck.
How about not having a sig at all?

I'd suggest saying "This journey would be a lot quicker in my Porsche" isn't beneficial to small talk you'll need to maintain with the recovery driver on your long journey.

Usual Taxi banter applies. "Been busy?" or "What times your shift on till?"

I felt inspired by GG today.
The FULL SIZE SPARE WHEEL on my Defender was a bit tatty, had large flakes of paint missing. I had spare cans of paint and had a few hours of chainsaw chain sharpening today so thought I’d do it as painting is a process of spraying for 1 minute and waiting for 15 between coats so a good way to fill the time and stop myself getting too bored.

Considering the state of my not very hermetically sealed environment, I’m chuffed with that. Still needs to be lacquered but that’s a minimum 24 hour wait. Not bad for a FULL SIZE SPARE WHEEL.

Also I used various cans of paint I’m a bit lost as to whether I should sand the paint before lacquer or not? One can says you should, the other says nothing. I guess it wouldn’t be a bad idea as there’s a few bits of sawdust in the paint from blowing out some air filters with an air compressor.

Also a further footnote. The Chipsaway dude who used to charge £50 for a blowover wanted …£180. Yeah still laughing at that quote. That’s more than an actual place with clinical stripping, removing the tyres, powder coating etc… Cheeky cunt.
How about not having a sig at all?

Don’t sand a pearl or metallic before lacquer.

You can sand a gloss is you want, but then you wouldn’t normally lacquer over a gloss anyway.

I wouldn’t sand silver

This is not actually true - most garages just can't be bothered to cut the foam back and want to sell you a new tyre. I've had Halfords and Kwik Fit repair tyres with the acoustic foam inside (but an independent oddly wouldn't).
Admittedly the Halfords one refused initially, but saw sense after realising they were about to lose my custom as I needed to be mobile that day and a replacement tyre was a five day wait.

It depends on the finish you get and what you hope to achieve. Usually on wheels I just aim for a decent finish out of the can and leave it like that.

Aerosol lacquer is pretty tricky to use. It’s very thin so the margin between a glossy finish and runs is pretty fine.

I usually just try and get a decent amount on by building up layers then give a quick buff with a fast cut compound once it’s had plenty of time to dry and harden.

X5 got five of us to Spain in comfort. 23-4mpg seems fine for a V8 when it's full of luggage, including a Starlink so that I can attempt to stay our here for 3 1/2 weeks without having to fly back for work (there's no phone reception or wifi where we stay). 8.50am Eurotunnel, stopped in Brive-la-Gaillarde for the night, unpacked and eating lunch by the sea the following day.

I've started to think about replacing it, but the only vehicle that fits how we use it this well is another X5, and it would be another £20k to get basically a newer version of the same car with a more problematic turbo V8, so I might tidy a couple of items up on this and run it to 200k (bought at 85k, currently on 122 ish), or until a large bill comes.

We feel the same about our much older ML. It does 23/24mpg say at 90mph fully loaded, averages 19mpg for what is a lot of relatively short drives. Will do a minimum 400 miles when on a quick run somewhere and 500 in a slow shlep.

Comfy, quick across country, reliable, nothing much new appeals at all. Which is lucky as I can’t afford anything new anyway 😂

Dropped the 928 off at the trimmers for a new interior last week. Should hopefully have it back by the start of September.

Locking wheel bolts on the Boxster were heavily corroded. Bought a new set + some new standard wheel bolts. Just as well I did - the offside rear (luckily the last one I did) locking bolt fused itself to the key and I couldn't get the locking nut off. Also treated it to a new fuel filler cap as on the old one, the bungee cord had perished and was annoying.
If you get all wobbly-lipped about the opinion of Internet strangers, maybe it's time to take a bath with the toaster as you'll never amount to sh1t anyway.

360 MOT, all good apart from one advisory for a slightly wobbly upper shock bush. Looks fairly easily DIYable. I suppose I should do all of them.
