I’ve caught jean rivets from my front pockets on steering wheels and caused similar damage in the past. So I agree completely with Dave. If it’s a single nick it will almost self-heal in use but a run like that would probably need a visit to Royal sadly.

Or live with it - more grip 😄

ABS light on in the Mini, local garage very busy so goig in on Friday, hopefully a sensor or reluctor ring or similarly cheap

Release cable bodged with a bicycle brake cable. I had to pinch one from a tandem as a regular one isn’t long enough.

I was expecting to find the original was broken and rusted somewhere but no - it was right at the latch end, the inner sleeve had completely melted and glued the inner & outer together.

It sits very close to the exhaust, I guess it could do with better heat shielding. Are bicycle cables designed for extreme heat ???

And the Cayenne might actually be sold. Seems the highly dodgy sounding request for personal details was just the guy getting confused. Next day the money turned up in my account as a normal bank transfer.

Slow puncture on the tesla. Had an old fag lighter powered pump from my previous cars but couldn't use it in the Tesla so have been pumping it up at filling stations while getting round to getting it repaired - PITA. So shelled out for the tesla own brand pump, figuring it plugs into one of the USBC ports or something.

It arrived today and it has a conventional fag lighter connection. Turns out there is a socket hidden in the arm rest.

First leg of the summer holidays complete. 512 miles (plus Eurotunnel) completed on one tank of petrol, averaging 37.8mpg.

For once we weren't in a rush. We'd told our friends to expect us between 6-7am, but Google was tracking is closer to 5, so having done about 200 miles at normal speeds, we slowed down to a very leisurely 55mph, which was incredibly relaxing.

A double espresso, sweets and an energy drink kept me going until 3am, letting me wife sleep.

Apart from rain, fog, and the total absence of road markers/reflectors there was little to trouble the driving. Family slept and I just focused on driving, which was nice.

Aircon on the x5 has stopped working.

Aircon on the compact isn’t as cold as it should be.

Aircon on both mito and merc are working fine, but haven’t had any sort or maintenance since they were new (2006 + 2012)

Need to find a mobile man with a van who will do a deal for all four 😄

Felt like it! 33 PSI to zilch in about 30 seconds.

Porsche Assistance currently projecting a 3 hour wait to get picked up…

Feel for you. It’s not as if there is much space for a spare wheel now but it doesn’t feel too long ago that spares were commonplace.

I assume you’re safe, just annoyed. Could be a different matter if you were stuck at the side of a motorway for 3 hours.

I know punctures aren’t that common, especially rapid deflations, but when it does it’s a massive inconvenience and having no onboard backup is one of the annoyances of ever bigger wheels and using every bit of spare space to squeeze more technology into cars.

No, no runflats. It’s got goo and a pump but I’m not even going to bother as it went flat so quickly it’s clearly got a major cut somewhere or structural damage (but weirdly I can’t see it).

Thankfully I pulled off a NSL road into the entrance to an electricity substation. It’s going to be a bit hairy getting it on to the back of a truck however as it’s not well sighted… if it a small recovery lorry we may be able to manoeuvre it without sticking out into the road too much.

I think the 996 was the last 911 with a space saver. Given this has centrelocks there’s no chance of getting one fitted at the side of the road however.

Still waiting for someone to be found to come out so expect I’m going to be here much of the day. It’s 1.5hrs from home in the middle of the countryside so not like I can easily leave it and make my way back.

My wife had also made plans for this afternoon so I’m going g to be in the doghouse to boot :?

Oh and the 305/30s are £300 each :(

Oh yes, centrelocks of course.

Makes me think it’s worth getting a Ranger Stork plug kit or similar. Could easily be ok to repair - a screw in the tyre will hold air but if it comes out it’ll lose pressure very quickly.

Yes you could be right - I can’t see anything obvious so either it is a screw that has come out (very possible given how residential roads in London seem to be strewn with them) or it is a buckled or cracked wheel but I didn’t feel an impact of that magnitude.

this all sounds like much more hassle than just getting the tyre fixed!!
