Bicyclist thread
Re: Bicyclist thread
Lovely looking thing - and wide bars rock!
Re: Bicyclist thread
The chap at work who runs the Cycle To Work scheme informed me that we’re no longer limited to £1000. That brings worthwhile e-bikes into the scheme. Getting tempted.
Re: Bicyclist thread
I'm surprised it hasn't been better publicised.
Re: Bicyclist thread
That's ace. Give the bars a try at 800mm though, you might like it. Think my hardtail came with 780 and it felt stupid when I got it out of the box but spot on now.
Re: Bicyclist thread
Yep, I will give them a try first. The bars on my ebike are 780mm and they felt unwieldy at first plus it is a bigger bike. I think the old Spectral is 770. How long until we see 1 metre bars

Excellent. Now pondering one of these https://www.evanscycles.com/specialized ... e-EV337893 on the Cycle To Work scheme, to clutter the garage a little more.

I can tell you if you can find a 2018 version anywhere as super old stock, it's a much better bike than the 2019. The '18 model was still aiming squarely at offroad so the motor goes harder with more torque. I've ridden both a lot and much prefer the '18 bike. Not to say the '19 is bad at all, it's just different - if you never tired the older one you'd still be wowed by it.JonMad wrote: ↑Fri Aug 23, 2019 12:35 pm Excellent. Thanks, that’s interesting. I’ve never tried any of the electric bikes tbh. It’s very unlikely to happen but the seed has been planted.KiwiDave wrote: ↑Sat Aug 24, 2019 6:21 amI can tell you if you can find a 2018 version anywhere as super old stock, it's a much better bike than the 2019. So this has been going great until the last couple of weeks, I've had 3 punctures. Any of you folks tried these? https://tannus.co.uk/tires/shop/speedingfine wrote: ↑Sun Sep 23, 2018 12:22 pm Going to look at this

tonight for £190 to do the 6 mile round trip to work. Looks a heavy bike so should be good exercise
Edit - OMG you can get them in krazy colours.

Re: Bicyclist thread
3 punctures in the same tyre? That sounds either like a repeated pinch in the inner tube or a thorn which hasn't been fully removed.speedingfine wrote: ↑Thu Nov 21, 2019 7:56 pm

Can't say I've ever heard anything good about puncture-proof tyres like that. The comfort in a bike is all in the pneumatic tyre.
ETA: https://www.cyclingweekly.com/reviews/t ... solid-tyre says too hard to be comfortable on UK roads.

Re: Bicyclist thread
I've bought another bike
A Trek Procalber hardtail 29er which is a first for me at that wheel size. It has something called an Isospeed decoupler which allows the seat down tube to flex slightly as it isn't solidly fixed to the top tube. I haven't ridden it yet so no idea how effective it is but the reviewers seem to rate it for taking the harshness out. I've always been slightly dubious about the benefits of 29" wheels until a friend bought one and it's very quick on the smoother stuff. I was having to work harder than usual to keep up with him on my 27.5" where normally he's slower than me. Plus it's an excuse for another type of bike in the fleet
If anyone is looking for this type of bike it's currently reduced in Evans to £1045 from £1700.
