Unless you're fortunate enough to live near decent, empty roads then I'd wager most prefer an auto. For shlepping through traffic to work, for going to the shops, for taking stuff to the tip. Can't think of any time nowadays I drive for 'fun' so auto all the time IMO.

That’s your choice though, I and many others still drive for fun as you find a nice route home, get up early or just play being a wally at a load of local roundabouts.

It’s a shame it’s impossible to have fun without a clutch pedal. That Alpine A110 gets such awful reviews.

Ah, I forgot, no one must ever criticise anything they can't afford.
Their criticism is based entirely on subjectivity, regarding the tie-up with BMW. Dislike it because you’ve driven it and it’s no good, that’s acceptable. Hate based on the inevitable compromise in this day and age is just a load of band waggoning.

I agree with you on that.

At the price point it’s come in at I was expecting something between a Cayman and a 911, not something with 100bhp less than a £38k Mustang (which can also handle pretty well).

The Cayman has had a massive jump in power with the switch to 4-cyl engines; needed really to justify the lack of cylinders. The Supra is priced competitively with the Cayman and has similar power so I can’t see why you’d expect it to be halfway to a 911.

At least the Supra has 6 cylinders. I wonder if depreciation will be competitive with the Cayman?

The expectations are pretty clear in this thread. It doesn’t meet them, other cars do.

Yep that's valid, but we are all quite good at cars, and can get a rough idea of performance from the numbers they produce. I stand by my initial source of disappointment - possibly just for nostalgic reasons but the Supra should go up against the GTR and it just doesn't.

One won races, one starred in a series of comedy films. Definitely competitors.

Figbt or no figbt, here's some heresy for you - if I was to switch to an Evora 400 I'd take the IPS.

I guess the ‘magic’ figure for me would be at or over 400bhp for that money, with performance models going 450bhp+. You can get 3.0L diesels producing around the same horsepower as the Supra and that just feels a bit naff :?

At first I want sure, but I think I'm starting to like it.

Price looks high, but I guess there's a lot of new cars you could say that about so one must assume there are people out there willing to pay it.

THIS is part of the problem, numbers being worth more than a driving experience. More power means: more weight devoted to cooling, to braking, the increased loads on everything and the vicious circle just continues until the compromises required to deliver "enough" power kills everything pleasurable about driving on the road.

A diesel engine might headline with five or six hundred horsepower but it will never ever be a sports car.
