Odd how they suddenly just crack all the way round, and boom it's gone.
You'd have thought there would be some movement, slop, knocking or squeekingbefore they pop all the way out.
Wonder if anyone has caught one while it's just started cracking before it completely lets go? At least then you'd have a chance of catching it with regular inspection.
Does seem to be a significant flaw in either the material or the design of such a major structural component.

Replacing it won’t really fix it though, surely it needs a redesigned replacement part.
How about not having a sig at all?

Similar fracture, which he had aluminium welded and plated rather than the official Audi repair.

Moral of the story, if you want to track your GT Porsche, buy a 996/7 GT3 (but not the 7RS 4.0 cos they have issues also).

Not good, but at least the turret can be replaced without too much collateral impact to the rest of the front of the car.
I wonder if the replacement turret would be an uprated design?

I wonder if we’re getting the full story? From my brief watch the repairer said it’s not the turret failing through poor design so much as the car having had a big whack from probably a pothole which bent the rim and put pressure on the bolt (not helped by the tiny suspension travel in a GT4) in the turret causing a fracture which probably led to complete failure during the track day. And it’s normal for aluminium to fracture like that.
How about not having a sig at all?

Hardly a surprising, maybe these YT influencers are not as influential as they had hoped.
If that was me, and I hadn’t had a previous list of daft YT videos I would 100% be persuing this, there’s a fundamental design flaw there.

Hi everyone, just got here from the EVO community, this GT4 is my car.
The full story is the strut failure was on the road during normal driving. The wheel was found to be slightly deformed on closer inspection.
I’m trying my best to wrangle with Porsche atm to get them to reverse their decision but I’m not holding out much hope.
My opinion is that even spinning into the gravel or hitting a pothole shouldn’t be enough to destroy a suspension turret. As pointed out previously there’s been lots of other failires in the US so it’s clearly a weak point. Ask yourself this, would you buy a GT4 yourself considering what’s happened to mine and many (admittedly a small percentage) other cars.

It looks ludicrous to me Pete, but the comments from the repairs assessor made a lot of sense*. Seems crazy that a tower would "rip" like that though from "just" a pothole impact.
No chance of using your car insurance if Porsche are maintaining it is "accident damage"

What does your insurance company say? Can it be classed as an accident? Have you spoken to your local council about the massive pothole on _______ road? Had you adjusted the suspension, and if so, was it still within the recommended range?
Unfortunately, your videos probably haven’t helped your case with Porsche, especially if you said you were just bumbling along..., but I’d be miffed they weren’t able to assist as a gesture of goodwill. Best of luck!

Watch the vid Rich - strut tower can be swapped out relatively easily. Repair assessor highlighted it looks so bad as it is Alu as opposed to steel, so rips rather than distorting under heavy impact.....
