Cheeky January trackday

Post by Nefarious »

Got roped into giving passenger rides for an SMRC open day yesterday. 4 hours of free track time with a steady stream of willing victims? oh go on then:

Well, it would be rude not to. Nice bit of air under the wheel.
Left over crest; tightens.

Shame i couldnt pop up.

FYI - you appear to have lost your passenger in image2. Check harness tightness.

I also saw the pics of Pete finding the limits of the GT4 at the hairpin. 8-)

Well, it's clearly generating a fair bit of force - it snapped one of the support struts by the end of the day (3mm ali with corner braces).

The difference with/without the rear wing is really noticeable when you drive it back to back. The lag of drag make it fell like its spinning up much more freely up the straights (comparable to the difference between passenger and no passenger), but it gets an awful lot more mobile through the corners. I wasn't gathering any data yesterday, but I'd guess at an overall difference of 0.5s running in favour of running with the wing.

no photos of it but braking in to the hairpin was also greasy as fook. On one lap in particular i was a bit enthusiastic in grabbing 2nd which locked the rear and i had half a turn of lock to straighten it whilst braking.

Also had a slight bit of a moment at clark as it changed camber in the wet at around 70-80 mph.

I had promised the guy who runs the superfast scots social media groups (Glenn Alcock) some laps. He's entering the Citröen C1 Championship next year as a complete novice. His total experience of knockhil consists of 10 laps in a single seater at one of the driving experience days.

Had a good session with him. Tried to show him some lines and where to brake. Not much of my braking points will translate to his in a C1 but the main thing he needs were circuit laps to learn the track. We had a good chat once we stopped in the pitlane and later in the day he had a go in the C1 demo car.

Think he was a bit overwhelmed with it as after the session with me he went out in a 675LT driven by GT3 racer Graham Davidson. One of his comments to me were "I cant go that fast" but i just said to him start at his own pace and build from there.

He said he enjoyed the C1 drive however and after a few laps was getting more confident. Im trying to persuade him to do more in his roadcar's for practise. He runs a Fiat 500 Abarth and a Ferrari 348.

Not intentionally - just pick up one of those little round coloured stickers for each day I do...

Ah! Scott's are more obviously coloured circular stickers but on the roll bar, they look like a motley collection of this type of thing:

What’s the story with that LT? Is that a press car? Mclaren has the ‘P1 OOV’ number plate for its halo press car 🤔

I like what you chaps did with the stickers. I’ve got two for my 996, albeit hidden away in the front boot.

If it wasn’t intentional you’d all just stick each new one on top of the last one!! 😃

He bought the plate to match the press cars. Also i believe P11 is the chassis designation (He says)

Oh yes - its intentional!

At the last trackday one of the pitlane marshalls said i should take them off as it confuses the marshals having lots the same colour.

I told him i wasnt going to do that.
