We're off to Dorset in October half-term, so this is timely info.jamcg wrote: Thu Sep 17, 2026 9:37 pm We’re off to Dorset next week for a cheap caravan holiday near Weymouth. Any recommendations for must see/do attractions while we’re there? Got a few bits planned, wife wants to visit the new forest, got a guided boat trip booked to see the cliffs/coast from the sea, usual touristy stuff

I did find an experience thingy for the giggling goat co on “only farmers” app as a little gift for the wife- she’s animal mad, absolutely loves everything fluffy and you get to feed baby goatsDeskJockey wrote: Fri Sep 18, 2026 5:34 pmWe're off to Dorset in October half-term, so this is timely info.jamcg wrote: Thu Sep 17, 2026 9:37 pm We’re off to Dorset next week for a cheap caravan holiday near Weymouth. There’s no dates for October there but they seem to add them in drips and drabs

Kids are animal mad too. We're half an hour from Weymouth, so that could be an option.

Only farmers seemed to be a decent app to find that kind of thing around where you’re going, there was a few go pick your own flowers things around there and stuff like that

Been today. Lady running it is lovely, got one very happy wife. Hand fed Pygmy goats, that many also like ear scritches, golden guernseys (are these what you have @mito man?) sheep, donkeys and stood near some alpacas that are comfortable with your presence but that’s about it. Day ended with cake and coffeeDeskJockey wrote: Fri Sep 18, 2026 9:16 pm Kids are animal mad too. We're half an hour from Weymouth, so that could be an option.
For animal mad people it’s definitely worth it as it’ll only be about a 10 minute drive away from affpuddle.

How about not having a sig at all?
Re: The Holiday Thread
Came across this British Airways thing for nervous flyers but it’s quite expensive because it has an actual flight

Might be useful for the person whose kid didn’t want to get on the plane.

I was lucky enough to fly on the Cranfield Jetstream 31 "flying laboratory" years ago. We did various multi-G maneuvers and they slowed the plane until the anti-stall system kicked in (which basically pushed the yoke full nose-down, and applied full throttle) - which was pretty violent. Seeing/feeling how much punishment a commercial plane can take made me far more comfortable with turbulence etc.
They've updated to a Saab now. The one I was on had full sets of analogue instruments for each passenger as opposed to just a screen.

The videos of the wing stress tests are amazing too, they go past 45 degrees before anything scary seems to happen.

Concorde lost sections of tail fin a number of times - I think 6?

Apparently one pilot tried to stab the other one! Re: The Holiday Thread
The guy who broke into the cockpit must be a beast. I thought they’re fitted with practically blast proof doors since 9/11

Re: The Holiday Thread
I assumed the victim pilot had possibly managed to hit the door switch?
Re: The Holiday Thread
Reportedly the attacked pilot managed to flick the door open as he was being attacked.
Re: The Holiday Thread
It was the pilot who attacked the co-pilot. So I'm guessing wanted to be a martyr or a mental.

In actual holiday , kind of, news......
I've been in Elblag Poland for the last 3.5 weeks. Pronounced Elblog it's a lovely town, great places to eat, lovely and calm and working with some great people.
Even the hoodlums on e scooters wear helmets and say morning
Will have to have a bit of travel around Poland as I've enjoyed where I've worked, despite the post communist eastern bloc vibes.
