An F20 1-Series is longer, wider, taller and (a lot - 350kg) heavier than an E30 3-Series. That's progress for ya !

It's damned near the size of - 15cm shorter than, and 20kg heavier than - an E46 saloon.

Convertible is a fair bit heavier, but for clarity, both these cars are on 18" wheels. One just doesn't look like it.

Only 20cm shorter than an E90 saloon. Which itself is now nearly 20cm shorter than a current gen 3 series

Crikey. I always think the e30 is quite a long car for its time, surprised a 1er is longer. From memory, dimensionally the e36 is very similar to the e30 ( Will have to check it now!)

UP GTi - paid £1.20 for new screws for the number plate to replace the rusty old ones. I'm far more chuffed than I should be about this, and surprised at how much difference it's made.

Empty Driveway Space - deposit paid on a new car, collection next weekend. Only taken me 12 months of hassling the owner of a specific car to get him to sell it, as it's a 1/1 in colour/spec and pretty much exactly how I'd spec that car if I bought it new. Problem is the garage hasn't been used since the 4C, so not sure where to put everything....

I doubt there are any unique spec LC500s - the only thing you could choose was the colour surely? And Matt has been after this specific car for a year. So I’m thinking it’s a Lotus.

When I took off the natty fake carbon fibre number plates off the CSL which the previous owner fitted, I used some heavy duty 3M dual lock (Velcro, but not Velcro), this stuff.

I don't take off the plates off often enough to justify it... but I can attest that it's decent, strong stuff!

My incorrect guess for Matty is a Caterham 7.

I’ve used actual Velcro for years - the 3M Velcro tape has brilliantly sticky and weather resistant glue. And it makes repositioning the plate if you get it wonky very easy.

I've changed my front plate for a legal smaller one. Basically you lose the unused excess around the edges but leave the size of the letters/numbers alone and as I have a number one the space next to that can be reduced slightly





Much better IMO now that the edges of the plate aren't outside the nose cone

The screw holes were already there, so it was just easier. Using sticky stuff just gets messy, and as I don't have the need to rapidly swap numberplates...... yet.

I'll post all the deets next week, but it is an Evora as guessed above. I'd been looked at Emiras (but now getting too expensive) and A110's (perfect on paper, but still lacking that little something that *really* makes me want one) so I stuck with plan A.

I do love an LC500 but they're too big.

Not wishing to be rude to John but he’s already shown us his private plate which has fewer characters. I do think a cut-down plate looks better when you have a shorter registration.

Not true; the space between characters is 11mm and between groups (the "MY71" & "CON") is 33mm. Being a 1 doesn't change that.

I fully agree with the smaller plate though I run non-legal ones on some of mine @ appx. 75% of legal size and <touch wood> have never had any issues. Just temporarily stick a legal one over the top at MOT time.
