New rear shocks made a massive difference to our 125i. In my experience BMW seem to be pretty good at using dampers that can be just good enough to pass an MOT with no signs of leaking, but otherwise are completely knackered! Obviously swapping them out is also minuts rather than hours compared with the subframe bushes.

M5's run-in service was finally done, not the best service (no pun intended) from Arnold Clark BMW... first time in 30 years of BMW ownership that the car wasn't washed or cleaned after being in to a dealer. First world problems etc.

Can confirm that sport plus mode + everything turned up to the max and its even more mental than the already faster-than-you'll-ever-need comfort settings.

After covering 760ish miles over two days, there was an odd crunching noise from the Galaxy when turning the steering wheel at low speed.

Internet suggests it is power steering related, but no noises today after it cooled down completely. Wonder if after German motorway speeds, then being stuck in traffic, inching forwards for an hour got things too hot. The engine bay was roasting.

Checked the power steering reservoir (manual says it's right in front of the coolant reservoir, which is sort of true, just necessitates removing the O/S headlamp to find it underneath), and it is definitely low.

As I doubt the fluid has ever been changed, and certainly not in my ownership, I'll get that done. Fingers crossed it won't need anything more, as I'm not in the mood for another holiday car repair.

What proportion of your running-in mileage was EV only?

Mine was in this week to check the boot roller blind and they cleaned it for me despite it being just a look before it goes in when the part is with them. Still happy with Sytner I’m pleased to say.

I like that option better than the alternative.

On the unrestricted parts it cruised comfortably at 85-90mph. More felt like a chore, but decent enough for a 14yo family bus with four people, all the detritus needed for a family of five for three weeks, and four bikes hanging off the back.

If it’s any reassurance, it’s possible to go to the Isle of Wight, drive around for a week, and come back again, all with no power steering fluid because your stupid Cayenne dumped the whole lot on the floor literally five minutes after leaving home and you decided to wing it because otherwise you’ll miss your ferry and ruin the whole holiday.

I hate seeing people whirring the steering when stationary for no good reason. (Yes of course I do it if parking in a really tight spot, but otherwise ensure I am moving). People who've always driven PAS have no idea, and many who should remember have clearly forgotten. I had to move our Disco4 once without PAS, and at a standstill the force required was utterly rondinculous.

Very little EV-only as I don't have a charger yet and haven't really done many big road trips. Even the ones of 40-50 miles each way have been on twisty (fun) roads, so the most we've had in the battery has been 4/5 miles at a time really.

When out cycling this weekend the number of rucked-up bits of tarmac outside people's houses where they'd turned the wheels when stationary was incredible. They should be charged for repairing the road surface. I know it's been warm but that's no excuse for damaging it.
