Re: Car insurance
The Mrs is happy, her merc renewal dropped it from £250 last year to £160 this year.
Cheers, Harry
Re: Car insurance
Noticed this with the renewal for my 125 motorbike:
£5.02 for a years insurance, but the service fee is £35. Should I phone them up and complain about it?

Re: Car insurance
928 insurance is due in a couple of months and unless it's a ludicrous premium I'm going to go with Locktons. Purely because I'll get European Breakdown and Recovery plus a hire car to continue the trip if the car isn't fixable in 48 hours. Getting European cover on a 39 year old car is virtually impossible. One of the TIPEC guys has a 912 and swears by it. It was brought into sharp focus on our recent Ireland trip when one of our chaps had his 2003 996 Carrera 4S lunch its engine 3 days in (cracked liner on cylinder 6). He thought his ClassicLine policy would cover him getting the car recovered. Turns out it was only to the nearest garage that could repair it. Cue 2 days of hassle and phone calls. Luckily, he had cover through a policy on a packaged bank account which allowed him to get the car recovered home, albeit 2 weeks later.
If you get all wobbly-lipped about the opinion of Internet strangers, maybe it's time to take a bath with the toaster as you'll never amount to sh1t anyway.
Re: Car insurance
I use the Nationwide one, it’s well worth the price. I think they’re all vaguely the same but the cover follows the bank account keeper, so I can sit in anyone’s car and if they have a breakdown that car will be recovered. Covers trailers too.
Typically cheaper than getting EU breakdown cover for a single vehicle but it also has travel insurance and other stuff on top.

How about not having a sig at all?

We're doing the same. Seems the best option.Mito Man wrote: Thu Jun 25, 2026 2:56 pm I use the Nationwide one, it’s well worth the price. Re: Car insurance
As per @Mito Man's recommendation last year, well worth doing quotes via MoneySavingExpert, I've found them cheaper than other comparisons.
£339 this year on the Up GTi (comparison search, with LVE) which is a bit of a saving of £393 from last year. Alas, I may end up sticking with Admiral (assuming they match it), as it's difficult to find companies who do multicar as well as they do, especially if you need to mirror your NCB to a higher risk car. I've (in principle) agreed to buy a little Honda E in September, when the sellers new company car turns up, so need to ensure that's reasonable as well, on top of a magical non-existentant second car I've been looking for for 14 months!
Edit - quick quote shows £296 for the Honda, which was nice.

Re: Car insurance
Nice. If a second parking space in London didn’t cost me £3500 a year I’d have a Honda e purely for the city.

I can let you use my drive for only £2995 p.a.Mito Man wrote: Thu Jun 25, 2026 9:21 pm Nice. If a second parking space in London didn’t cost me £3500 a year I’d have a Honda e purely for the city.
Re: Car insurance
Renewal for Puma came through at £650. Insured elsewhere for £460. Was hoping there was some magic switch to make it £200 a year by turning 40 but apparently not
was expecting to be shafted for having a non-fault claim because insurance companies are cunts, so could have been much worse
Re: Car insurance
One of the few positives of getting older is less expensive car insurance, I've recently insured the Caterham for £237 fully comp. The Volvo V60 insurance is due in a couple of months and as I couldn't remeber what I paid for this years cover I had a look through my old emails, £237. Spooky
Re: Car insurance
Based on a tip from Reddit if you're with Admiral:
My renewal came though at £360, cheaper than last year. I did a comparison quote, and there was a deal for £330 - I wasn't going to bother moving for the sake of £30 and just let it roll over - but someone on Reddit said just go to your account say "you want to leave" and put in the renewal quote (don't take the piss with it) and they'll usually match it.
Sure enough, they not only matched it, but knocked an additional £12 quid off! So £42 quid saved just for a couple of clicks. Awesome

Re: Car insurance
The boy has just passed his test. Was dreading the upgrade in insurance from provisional to full licence.
They only want £180 extra for the next three months, £50 of that was the fee for making an adjustment.
Hopefully at renewal it won’t be too horrendous with a years ncb on it.

Re: Car insurance
Renewal has arrived from Admiral:
199.52 911
205.62 Vantage
234.27 360
259.56 ID.3
663.54 M5
1,562.51 TOTAL
Spot the odd one out ! It wasn't much extra to change from Disco to M5 when I bought it in Feb, and the Disco was only £380 in the first place. So it's somehow shot up. I'll have to give them a call. Maybe I need to shuffle the NCB around.
Also - I ran a quote for the M5 with Saga. LOL.

Re: Car insurance
Old man's insurance renewal came through, circa nine hundred and fifty pounds, up from 500. No claims in last 5 years. A quick online quote from other providers that were not Churchill quickly got this under last year's with the same, if not more cover and recovery.
It was set to auto renewal and they made me phone up to cancel and 'accidentally,' cut me off the first time. Shysters. My currently employer has recently been fined circa 20m for similar practice. Churchill are now on my black list.
