Re: Car insurance
The Mrs is happy, her merc renewal dropped it from £250 last year to £160 this year.
Cheers, Harry
Re: Car insurance
Noticed this with the renewal for my 125 motorbike:
£5.02 for a years insurance, but the service fee is £35. Should I phone them up and complain about it?

Re: Car insurance
928 insurance is due in a couple of months and unless it's a ludicrous premium I'm going to go with Locktons. Purely because I'll get European Breakdown and Recovery plus a hire car to continue the trip if the car isn't fixable in 48 hours. Getting European cover on a 39 year old car is virtually impossible. One of the TIPEC guys has a 912 and swears by it. It was brought into sharp focus on our recent Ireland trip when one of our chaps had his 2003 996 Carrera 4S lunch its engine 3 days in (cracked liner on cylinder 6). He thought his ClassicLine policy would cover him getting the car recovered. Turns out it was only to the nearest garage that could repair it. Cue 2 days of hassle and phone calls. Luckily, he had cover through a policy on a packaged bank account which allowed him to get the car recovered home, albeit 2 weeks later.
If you get all wobbly-lipped about the opinion of Internet strangers, maybe it's time to take a bath with the toaster as you'll never amount to sh1t anyway.
Re: Car insurance
I use the Nationwide one, it’s well worth the price. I think they’re all vaguely the same but the cover follows the bank account keeper, so I can sit in anyone’s car and if they have a breakdown that car will be recovered. Covers trailers too.
Typically cheaper than getting EU breakdown cover for a single vehicle but it also has travel insurance and other stuff on top.

How about not having a sig at all?

We're doing the same. Seems the best option.Mito Man wrote: Thu Jun 25, 2026 2:56 pm I use the Nationwide one, it’s well worth the price. Re: Car insurance
As per @Mito Man's recommendation last year, well worth doing quotes via MoneySavingExpert, I've found them cheaper than other comparisons.
£339 this year on the Up GTi (comparison search, with LVE) which is a bit of a saving of £393 from last year. Alas, I may end up sticking with Admiral (assuming they match it), as it's difficult to find companies who do multicar as well as they do, especially if you need to mirror your NCB to a higher risk car. I've (in principle) agreed to buy a little Honda E in September, when the sellers new company car turns up, so need to ensure that's reasonable as well, on top of a magical non-existentant second car I've been looking for for 14 months!
Edit - quick quote shows £296 for the Honda, which was nice.

Re: Car insurance
Nice. If a second parking space in London didn’t cost me £3500 a year I’d have a Honda e purely for the city.
