Finally got the rad fitted to the 928. The RadTec unit is very well made - all aluminium (the end tanks are plastic on the Behr original) and has a bigger core and it fitted perfectly. I'm considering taking the expansion tank off and cleaning it out as it's difficult to visually check the coolant level.

Fitted a new passenger door seal and I'm waiting for the driver's side one to turn up (should be here Thursday), but it's only a 5 minute job to pull out the old one and fit the new.

Next job is injectors and fuel lines, which shouldn't take long but I'm pretty time poor at the moment. I've also got an Octavia blower motor that I'm going to use to replace the existing one as it squeaks occasionally and seems to draw a fair amount of current. I've also bought some new membranes to repair the HVAC comb flap actuator. As the blower motor is located in the front scuttle, it's a bonnet off job

I tried to remove the bearing from the steering knuckle on the Mito and the inner race came out with balls everywhere, but the outer race remained stuck

So my problem is it has come out as pictured as the outer race is sitting flush in a shoulder (you can just see its shiny ring, it’s the only non rusty bit), so physically there is nothing to press.
Not sure how to proceed, any ideas?

Or just buy a new part. In which case I’m annoyed I spent 30 minutes slowly trying to remove the ABS sensor which then just crumbled into dust

R5 air con stopped working nearly 2 weeks ago in the previous heatwave. Finally went in today and it’ll be about 3 weeks to be repaired - condenser and pipework coming from France. It’s 14 months old and has 13k miles on it so it’s a bit disappointing; it’s under warranty because there is no damage from stones or whatever.

In possibly related news the Cayenne has now passed 10,000 miles in 16 months. M5 will pass 6,000 tomorrow and has achieved 39.5mpg since I’ve owned it. MX5 is at nearly 7k miles in 2 years. I’m going to use it a bit more now I’ve discovered I enjoy it with the roof up

Weld a nice thick bead of weld around the race, when it cools it'll pull the bearing in slightly and should be released enough to come out. A common occurrence.

I agree with Dave.

The outer race always sticks, it’s deigned to be a pretty snug fit!

A nice bead of weld around the inside will loosen it and also give you something to bash against with a drift to get it moving. You could dremel a couple of slots in it and break it out, but you don’t really want to add potential stress risers in the hub if you go a bit too deep, and will probably take quite a bit longer than the weld method.

Yeah I’ll give it a try, I only have a stick welder and I’m not the most accurate with it Don’t even have a dremel! Good to hear it’s normal, I was worried it was abnormally corroded.
I’ve only done the other type of bearings which are one unit with the hub and bolt off the knuckle and they’re a doddle compared to this.

Stick will be fine, probably better than mig tbh. Doesn’t have to be pretty!

Try and get in a position where you can get as much of the way round in a single bead as possible, just so it’s all hot and all cools at a similar time.

I’ve got sucked into the spiral of adding shiny bits which make other bits look grotty so you end up tidying more bits up

New coolant tank. I believe it’s from a later 33 as there was a bracket on the underside I had to snip off, and the shape is very slightly different, the strengthening dimples on the old one were underneath, but are on top on this one. As you can imagine, finding a nice new alfasud one isn’t easy!

Yes I have put a shiny new cap on too, I just hadn’t managed to find it when I took the photo. Also peeled the ugly orange Halfords sticker off the top of the battery I’m not going to go crazy with it, just try and make it a bit more presentable….

The most satisfying tidy up I did on the Clio was to fabric wiring tape wrap the headlight loom. Also nicely cheap.

Continued troubleshooting of the Zoe's charging issue. Speaking to Zappi support I reduced the maximum draw from 31.8A to 16.2A as a way to test whether it is the charger overheating that is causing it to stop charging. There were nothing I could see in the log to suggest an issue, but it is worth a try.

They will also send through what I need to get the charger back online, as it hasn't been connected to the internet for years, as it offered me no benefits. With the demise of the Renault app, the Zappi app becomes useful again.

I've been considering paying attention to how the engine bay looks as I mentioned in my previous post about cleaning the expansion tank. I was all for buying a new one until I saw the price - £376 + delivery!

I think mine was about £30
