Good on him. I’m sure most coppers are decent but there’s an utterly bent underbelly of them out there.

He was lucky they presumably didn't record his speed because he was almost certainly exceeding 60 overtaking 5 vehicles on that stretch of road. The police did not deal with things very well.

I'm sure he'd have probably taken that if that were the case - 3 points and a fine would be much less damaging than a careless driving charge for insurance purposes, etc.

I think ultimately we're in 2026 (or 2024 in this case!) and dashcams are cheap and ubiquitous. There's no reason every police fleet car shouldn't have one and a careless driving charge, etc. should require that evidence to be submitted otherwise it is literally just one (unreliable) eyewitness account.

His points against the justice system are also valid. If they'd convicted you in absentia when you'd returned the paperwork they have f'ed up and should not get another shot. If they can't find a court date within 12 months for a summary only offence such as this it should be timed out. Only by including incentives like this in the system will it get funded/run in a better way.

2026 Pikes Peak

Robin Shute in the fastest ICE (2nd overall) - brain-meltingly fast but you can see there's plenty of room to go faster.

Romaine Dumas in the bonkers Ford Mach E, fastest overall:

What's funny/sad is that the fastest production car was the new mega Corvette. But the onboard footage is practically snoozeworthy and it's more than a minute faster than the iconic Climb Dance.

Yeah, it's a very different prospect since it's been surfaced. It's a shame we don't get bikes racing on it any more.

Modern cameras annd cars are just too good. The top formula car just looks like it’s on a Sunday drive and the EV not much better.

Chris McQuarrie was talking about this recently. He was saying that when shooting Top Gun Maverick, if the shot hasn't been planned with points of reference and framing ( I guess your DP doing their job right), they would have footage of fighter planes which were going at mach-whatever but almost looked like they were just hovering in mid-air.

Who TF decided that this lady's belts were "as tight as they could be" was mistaken...... :?

Saw her adjust herself in the seat at about 42-43 second and decided I didn't need to see her being thrown about like a sack of loose potatoes in the crash.

The haybale going through the open window and smacking her in the face luckily stopped her from moving about too much.

I see Mark McCann and Matt Armstrong's challenges with Veyrons are continuing...

I don't know if I've forgotten due to old age or just don't know the answer, but why are Bugatti refusing to sell parts for the cars to individuals or the specialist indie Mark has been working with?

I'm sure it won't influence any prospective Bugatti buyer, but it's not a great look to have where there's a couple of cars with loads of issues which enthusiastic car people are just trying to fix them and get back on the road?
Cheers,

I wouldn’t be surprised if they rely on service and repair costs to make money, iirc the cars are sold at a loss?

Its probably not Bugatti themselves but the dealer network it is keeping afloat. Given the number of cars they sell will be minimal and I imagine they don't have any dealer owned stock or little in the way of other trading profits, its probably one of the only income streams they have.

The UK dealer is just that single HR Owen dealer in Mayfair isn’t it? It’s just a room on the side of their Bentley/Ferrari showroom - looks pretty rubbish but it’s clear it’s a tiny part of their business.

Bugatti black list VIN numbers after they’re written off which is what happened in Matt’s case.

I don’t watch Mark but I don’t think his was written off. So maybe at this point it’s Rimac personally blacklisting all the YouTubers

I don't understand how Furlonger can specialise in Bugattis if they can't get parts themselves. McCann should have been able to get it fixed via Furlonger.

Yip... and he's been more than willing to just buy a gearbox and other parts from Bugatti. I know the Furlonger guys have been manufacturing spare parts as well, but it all just seems a bit mental :D

There is a Manchester dealer in the UK too (and presume the principle applies to other countries Europe wide).

I don't think it is blacklisting - they just require any parts to be fitted by them in their service centre. Mark doesn't want to do that as fitting new clutch plates involves them splitting the car in half and its 100s of hours of labour so he'll end up with a ridiculous bill of £150,000+ - assuming they don't find other things they require to be fixed whilst they're in there... At this point, however, it seems like the sensible thing to do (other than of course he can make more content.

I think Furlonger are probably just authorised to do bog standard service work - not large repair and maintenance jobs. They obviously don't have a rig needed to flush the box to fit new clutch plates as the only one of those is at Ricardo.

Probably won’t appeal to many, but it’s good for showing some of the rampant rust they were renowned for, I have never seen such crusty aluminium, and also quite good for seeing how the engine both sits in the car and comes apart.

Cheers, Harry
