Good on him. I’m sure most coppers are decent but there’s an utterly bent underbelly of them out there.

He was lucky they presumably didn't record his speed because he was almost certainly exceeding 60 overtaking 5 vehicles on that stretch of road. The police did not deal with things very well.

I'm sure he'd have probably taken that if that were the case - 3 points and a fine would be much less damaging than a careless driving charge for insurance purposes, etc.

I think ultimately we're in 2026 (or 2024 in this case!) and dashcams are cheap and ubiquitous. There's no reason every police fleet car shouldn't have one and a careless driving charge, etc. should require that evidence to be submitted otherwise it is literally just one (unreliable) eyewitness account.

His points against the justice system are also valid. If they'd convicted you in absentia when you'd returned the paperwork they have f'ed up and should not get another shot. If they can't find a court date within 12 months for a summary only offence such as this it should be timed out. Only by including incentives like this in the system will it get funded/run in a better way.

2026 Pikes Peak

Robin Shute in the fastest ICE (2nd overall) - brain-meltingly fast but you can see there's plenty of room to go faster.

Romaine Dumas in the bonkers Ford Mach E, fastest overall:

What's funny/sad is that the fastest production car was the new mega Corvette. But the onboard footage is practically snoozeworthy and it's more than a minute faster than the iconic Climb Dance.

Yeah, it's a very different prospect since it's been surfaced. It's a shame we don't get bikes racing on it any more.

Modern cameras annd cars are just too good. The top formula car just looks like it’s on a Sunday drive and the EV not much better.
How about not having a sig at all?

Chris McQuarrie was talking about this recently. He was saying that when shooting Top Gun Maverick, if the shot hasn't been planned with points of reference and framing ( I guess your DP doing their job right), they would have footage of fighter planes which were going at mach-whatever but almost looked like they were just hovering in mid-air.
Cheers,

Mike.
