It always confuses me when manufacturers don’t do this. Because practical sports cars ftw. Particularly performance estates.

A lot of the time it's down to the exhaust.

Passed an M5 in a lovely deep blue when I was headed through Collingham in Yorkshire (funnily enough just past the Porsche dealer there) and there is something about a deep colour that really picks out the shape of this car. Purple still the better shade though.

Running in is going to be complicated - I think ideally I should not use hybrid mode so the engine isn’t miles behind the rest of the car because it still needs the 1200 mile oil change.

Looks fab Simon and exactly the car i would expect to see you in bearing in mind i think your 540i Touring was the last car i saw you in.

I’m colourblind so the subtlety of the colour is somewhat lost on me i suspect but i do like the colour. I like the new M240i 4wd in the Thundernight colour

Thanks Mike - it was 2010 that I sold the E39 so how time flies. And yes indeed, I've had four V8 5-series Tourings previously (didn't have a V8 version of the F11 because I couldn't find one and the G31 wasn't offered as a V8) so I really had to get one I suppose  Funny how the social media screams about the weight and size of it can take the edge off a new car launch; it was Audi and the nearly as heavy RS5 which made me look at it again and realise it was more interesting than I'd initially thought.

I did take the opportunity to photograph it next to a 2-series in Thundernight when I picked it up. It's similar but clearly different when next to each other. God knows why BMW have made so many different shades of purple but I won't complain 8-)

The M5 looks ace @Jobbo

Being able to drive to and from work on pure EV (and then recharge at home) is a complete winner too

Look forward to hearing about the ownership experience over the next couple of years...
