The House Projects Thread
Re: The House Projects Thread
That looks awesome, it's a house you could adapt to any hobby you want and still have a good sized living area.

Re: The House Projects Thread
My mate had underfloor heating put in his 3 car garage and it’s now got a bar/lounge area, speakers in the ceiling etc so we go there to hide away from women, drink and shoot the shitRich B wrote: Mon Mar 09, 2026 11:20 am I quite like the concept - yes, this one isn’t particularly attractive but there’s nothing to stop the rest of the house being nice too.
i’d love a big/huge garage space - it could be a garage, a workshop, a gym, etc.. and with it being part of the house, you wouldn’t have to do that whole “but it’s too cold to go out so i can’t be bothered” when you want to go and enjoy whatever hobby it is.

My folks have got a single garage which is part of the house and my dad loves it, he can just potter around doing small jobs on the car without getting cold etc. And it's only a few steps to get back to the kitchen/living room for a coffe break.Rich B wrote: Mon Mar 09, 2026 11:20 am I quite like the concept - yes, this one isn’t particularly attractive but there’s nothing to stop the rest of the house being nice too.

Only ten minutes from Cadwell too
Re: The House Projects Thread
So as completion day approaches I've been trying to guess whether the 911 will fit into the garage at the new place (as below). It is a single garage and always looked very small to me (e.g. even that Polo doesn't look like it would fit) but the estate agent's floorplan has this as 3.3m x 5.4m so actually should be amply large enough... other than the fact it has cupboards full of gardening stuff in it currently. I guess ingress is going to be the difficult bit owing to the doors being narrower than the interior...Gavster wrote: Mon Mar 09, 2026 11:47 amMy folks have got a single garage which is part of the house and my dad loves it, he can just potter around doing small jobs on the car without getting cold etc. And it's only a few steps to get back to the kitchen/living room for a coffe break.Rich B wrote: Mon Mar 09, 2026 11:20 am I quite like the concept - yes, this one isn’t particularly attractive but there’s nothing to stop the rest of the house being nice too.

Ideally I'd like to take the whole thing down and replace it but there is a set of steps down to the lower ground floor between it and the house, plus I will also need to get a load of approvals to vary any external aspect of the property so not sure how much I'll get to change it (even though it is not contemporaneous with the house itself)

Re: The House Projects Thread
Where are you going to put your 5 (6?) bins if you put a car in the garage?

Yes that is rather a good point - I don’t know why the current owner chooses to keep their collection of wheelie bins there. Looking at street view they don’t seem to have ever lived in the garage (unless they speedily wheel them out when a passing googlemaps car passes by).
They are rather unsightly - thankfully there isn’t a shortage of front drive space so I’m sure I can find them a new home and preferably hidden within some sort of enclosure. I’ll add that to the ‘home improvements’ list (to be honest I expect ‘book’ would be a more accurate description than ‘list’)

Re: The House Projects Thread
The door definitely looks bigger than a regular single. If it really is 3.3 x 5.4 then the door must be 2.5m I’d have thought a 911 should easily fit.

Re: The House Projects Thread
If they're 240litre Southwark wheelie bins then they're 580mm wide which means that doorway must be around 2.4m on the basis those 4 bins look like they'd fit neatly across the door if put next to each other. Pretty safe for the Porsche to fit and deffo need a bin enclosure somewhere for your fleet of wheelies
Re: The House Projects Thread
Due to the camera lens distortion I’m struggling to tell if the normal waste bin is one of those slimline ones. Anyway, we aren’t planning on increasing our waste output just because we’ve moved house (other than maybe garden waste) and we currently manage fine with one recycling and one normal waste so we can probably hide most of those away out of sight in the garden.

Exactly. That shizzle doesn’t need to be round the front until collection day.GG. wrote: Thu Mar 19, 2026 9:00 am we can probably hide most of those away out of sight in the garden.
Re: The House Projects Thread
I should also mention that it seems that I will shortly be living next door to someone with a car collection worthy of Steve - next door neighbour appears to have a 997 Turbo (previously had a 991 Carrera S), an E46 M3, an R129 SL, a Lexus RX and not one but two Minis
I am looking forward to meeting him but feel with only three cars we really need to up our game…
Next neighbour over also seems to have a brand new GMC Yukon so wonder what the story is there. They also seem to have done a massive bare shell Reno of the place including some incredible mind 19C Victorian detailing so clearly is not short of a few bob.

Re: The House Projects Thread
And definitely never in the garage - what a waste of valuable space that would be.
Re: The House Projects Thread
Fucking bin cunts in councils need mulching and putting in their own bins, then the bin lids locked, thrown in a 20 foot container full of concrete and dumped in the ocean. Just so none of their DNA can be passed on, the bin wanting fuckers.
5 bins here including the food waste bin that we don't need.
Cunts cunts.
That garage looks like a very nice single car, make a nice scene for the car kind of garage

Hey if the modern 911 is too tight a fit for comfort that means you now have a reason for an air cooled one
How about not having a sig at all?

Yeah, I think I'd be tempted to lose a few of those bins. Who tf needs two of each? Although you might need a couple more if any changes are required to your local service as part of the nationwide harmonisation of waste collection.GG. wrote: Thu Mar 19, 2026 9:00 am Due to the camera lens distortion I’m struggling to tell if the normal waste bin is one of those slimline ones. Re: The House Projects Thread
If they're collected, you have a good way of disposing of the extra waste at Christmas etc - I bet there are many people who would kill for extra bin collections.Swervin_Mervin wrote: Thu Mar 19, 2026 9:45 am Yeah, I think I'd be tempted to lose a few of those bins. Who tf needs two of each?
I see @V8Granite has started to implement his plans in Coventry: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cr73g20x845o

Re: The House Projects Thread
Same collection times as ours, but we manage fine with just one of each. I do make a tip run once a month, usually with cardboard. Having 4 bins is annoying enough.mik wrote: Thu Mar 19, 2026 10:12 amerm.....Swervin_Mervin wrote: Thu Mar 19, 2026 9:45 am
Yeah, I think I'd be tempted to lose a few of those bins. Who tf needs two of each?we have two plastic and two cardboard recycling bins. These only get collected every 4 weeks (plastic one week, carboard two weeks later etc etc), so one wasn't enough. I hate that they take up space, but not sure what else to do.
Re: The House Projects Thread
This was my initial solution too, but when I had nothing other than excess recycling it started to wind me up.Swervin_Mervin wrote: Thu Mar 19, 2026 10:15 am I do make a tip run once a month, usually with cardboard.
