The adhesive has probably etched the glass slightly, you’d probably have to use a machine polisher and cerium oxide glass polish to properly deep clean the surface. Fine if on the outside ( even then you need to be careful) but expect it would chew through the lines on a heated screen.

If memory serves someone on here does or did sign writing. I have an issue I can’t solve, the previous owner of my car had the name of their business on the rear screen. It’s been removed before I got it and is invisible until the sun hits it at a certain angle then you can see the wording clearly. I’ve tried all sorts to get it off, glass cleaner, glass polish, even acetone but nothing makes a difference. Any ideas?

Do you have windscreen cover in your insurance? Does it cover the rear windows? Does it rain hammers round your neck of the woods?

Get a negative of their sticker made up, apply that, wait x years until the wear/residue is the same and then remove it.

Did you try this? When I was fixing the window regulator in the Fabia I held the window glass up with gorilla tape. It was stuck there for ages, and I kept hacking to add extra bits as I took so long doing the job. It left a sticky residue on the paintwork and on the glass itself. I used petrol to get rid of it, from both. Initially it looked like I'd made it worse but I kept polishing/rubbing it and eventually it all came clean and smooth. IIRC I might have used some fairy liquid on it as well. I was skeptical but my FiL suggested it, and it did actually work. If you fuck the screen even more though, don't blame me

I found Diesel quite effective at removing the left over foam adhesive from wheel weights. It doesn't evaporate off quickly like petrol either, so can be left to soak in.

Doesn't smell as nice as petrol though

You can use the petrol to wipe up the diesel after it's sat for a couple of hours. Consider it a treat, for future you

Since we're working our way through all substances, I'm going to suggest that you try monkey jizz. If you haven't already tried it of course? My mates aunt Teresa had a mark on some glass 3 years ago that she was really struggling to remove, but apparently monkey jizz did the trick!

As a last resort before you accidentally drop a large hammer through the glass - it might be worth a direct question to Richard Tipper (@perfectionvalet on the twitters/X). If anyone has experienced this before, it'll be him. I've found he's quite willing to share tips & tricks (unless he's too snowed under to read/respond).
