Road trip in an Evija.

1680kg downforce at 217mph is impressive.

"real world" 150mile range isn't.

I'd also be interested to see how many track laps you get before you need to recharge - as I guess that (ie circuit work) has to be it's forte :?:

My guess is "not many", and I'm not sure how many circuits have high-speed chargers on-site...... :?

Its one of those where without even reading a word (I did read it all), I'd have guessed at the outcome and I wasn't far off.
Lotus also remains suspiciously coy about how many Evijas have found homes, but at £2.4m it’s unquestionably a tough sell. After 48 long hours at the wheel, the jury is still out. It’s mesmerising to look at, fast as hell, and handles spectacularly. But the motors are noisy, the range barely adequate, and the software issues 21st century incarnations of traditional Lotus, shall we say, foibles. The company reckons some Evijas will end up part of big collections, destined to be a static masterpiece and state of the art techno flagship. But the technology is moving fast and a Lotus, more than most other cars, exists to be driven. After 1,000 demanding miles, and for various disparate reasons, this one doesn’t go quite far enough.
Cheers,

Mike.

TLDR

150 mile range - assuming it doesn't need a hard resets by Lotus engineers if you get the drive modes wrong  (something customers won't have following them everywhere), broken AC, indicators going on the fritz, and this is their press car, what should be the ver best prepared car they have FFS.

And if you get stuck at a charger than is limited to something like 50kw, you're gonna be stuck there for an hour to get another 50-70 miles in it. Lets hope that you don't run out of charge in an area where people might be interested in what is considered 'walking around money' for someone who is obviously a multi-millionaire!

What a complete waste of time.

The whole EV hyper car is a tricky one really, in world where a £100k 4 door EV can do 0-60 in 2 seconds, who wants to pay £2.4m for an EV that can probably match it, but can’t actually drive anywhere to the rest of its limits (like a track) because it’s got a shitty range.

it basically makes a nice garage ornament or a unpractical way to pop into town.

After how many laps would the Civic come past because the Evija had run out of charge?

Just found out this snippet of information.

The directional indicators are incorporated into the corners of the ribbon, while the reversing light is provided by the illuminated ‘T’ of the ‘LOTUS’ wordmark above the integrated charging flap.

Whilst I want to consider it quite cool/clever, I'm going to guess that the level of light it emits is woeful :?

i expect it’ll have a rear camera too, so it’s not a particularly big deal and LEDs are pretty powerful these days.

Presumably, also illuminating the l,o,u and s would have been too big a drain on the battery

Autocar has put the timing gear on one. 0-150 in 7.7 seconds, 0-200 in 13 seconds.

Other cool figures are 100-150 in 2.9 seconds and it can go from 100-200mph in 8.2 seconds (about as fast as an M3 gets from 0-100)...

That's a bit nippy.

The Evija isn't quick off the line, 0-100 in 4.8. But Autocar said it's how they've geared it so that it gets quicker at higher speeds.

Would be interesting to see if Autocar get hold of a Nevera R

Interesting and simultaneously a bit boring vid. :?

1. Interesting that - for a vid that's all about the numbers - they've left in a few of Matt's speak-o's (notes total power as 213 rather than 2013bhp, states weight at 906 rather than 1906kg).
2. I hadn't realised that they had avoided using regen for the feels. Brave, but does explain the dysmal range.
3. I also hadn't realised they put hydraulic PAS in it 8-)
4. Numbers are of course crazy. From a standing start it would be at around 180 by the time my Evora hit 100mph
5. As @Jobbo highlights - this crown may be toppled pretty quickly - Nevara claim above is 9.22sec 0-300kph (186mph) whereas Autocar timed 9.5sec to 171.6mph for the Evija.

The Rimac figures were independly verified I think - they set records. 0-200mph in 10.86s.

Now I’ve watched the Matt Prior video, I’m far more taken by it than I was after I read the road test in the magazine. It seem irrelevant when reading the mag. Seeing it on video brings it into the world we inhabit. I could almost imagine driving it. Seeing it move past the camera visually shows the links with the Elise and other Lotuses.

I almost want one now. Way more than I’d ever want a Rimac.

With my deeply cynical hat on I'd say maybe Williams were responsible for the integration and electrical calibration finesse and Lotus burned that bridge too early in development...
