Today’s want
Re: Today’s want
Would it show as taxed if the owner was disabled and had an exemption?
I'm unsure of the mechanics but recently found out cars can be registered as tax exempt for certain drivers.

Re: Today’s want
Maybe diplomatic? Just throwing a guess out there but they seem immune from everything don’t they

How about not having a sig at all?
Re: Today’s want
Yes, it would still show as taxed. We have a converted car, similar to an EV you go through the process of taxing the car for zero cost.

Re: Today’s want
I've talked myself out of it. I do like the idea, and that one does have a very good spec, but to be perfect for me it needs a black interior. I like the interior/exterior to have a contrast. Silver & black being my signature look, or dark colour outside & cream/beige inside. I'm sure you could track down a complete black interior and swap it over but that's a bit much hassle.Explosive Newt wrote: ↑Mon Jun 09, 2025 8:29 amIt is now tomorrow, today.Sundayjumper wrote: ↑Sun Jun 08, 2025 10:43 pmAs I explained offline to Gavster about an hour and a half ago, I'd had three glasses of wine, and if this still seems like a good idea tomorrow I will email them![]()
Incidentally, this has prompted me to install the AT Price Tracker plugin and it's very good

Re: Today’s want
I am still succeeding in not buying another car. It's been almost a week !
But having agreed with other members of the household that I don't really need a 7-Series, as the Disco does a decent job of "big comfy", I'm pondering "luxury convertible". It's a niche I've not covered. The closest was my E36 323i Convertible. I've long had a soft spot for the Merc SL and they seem good value. Pre-2006 avoids the £760 VED too.

Or heading down to "suspiciously cheap" territory with the 350:

Wheels on the 500 look better. Therefore that is the right choice.

Re: Today’s want
i prefer the 350 wheels!
Re: Today’s want
Must admit, if you're going for the 'well used' side of the formerly around £100k car club, you might as well go for the V8 and dismiss anything smaller.
If it's gonna have twenty year old car problems, they're gonna be a pain to sort anyway, so might as well make them a pain to sort on something with bags of lazy torque and nice exhaust note.

Re: Today’s want
But they were 350 wheels and therefore give away the fact you don’t have a V8
I wouldn’t go for an R230 SL. A work colleague had one from new and the top made slight noises when up. And a folding hard top is difficult to keep watertight as it ages. I remember plenty of people having issues with them from new too, and the interior didn’t feel as high quality as I expected. R129 or r231 for me in preference.

Isn't that the era of Merc rust? My 2003 CLK55 suffered with that.

Re: Today’s want
I’ve not really researched but I’ve not noticed any with that kind of chronic rust.
Anyway, today we are wanting this. It’s more silver than mine.

Hardly used in the last ten years and big gaps in the MOT history. That’ll be terrifying for most buyers.

Re: Today’s want
I don't have a huge desire for the SL in general but these are pretty fantastic value (yes, I'm aware its 3x that SL500 but still peanuts in the grand scheme of things)
