Renault 5 - Test drive
Re: Renault 5 - Test drive
If I take it through the salary sacrifice scheme the charger install is included in the cost.
Re: Renault 5 - Test drive
Also I found when having a cheap to run car, even if not really suitable you make it work because it can be enjoyable knowing you’ve saved money. So you may end up using the R5 even more than you think you will.
I expect to see you 4 up with suitcases duct taped to the roof soon

Don’t forget there is a Renault 4 coming aswell if you need more space. Not as good looking but glad Renault are trying to make affordable EVs (

Re: Renault 5 - Test drive
For £350 a month I'd be going MG4.

I enjoyed the one I test drove, just didn't have the range for us to go full electric yet, probably 170 miles in winter at a push.

Re: Renault 5 - Test drive
The problem is though the MG4 is bloody awful. Unless it has had a huge change then the 2 year old one my uncle has is terrible. It feels like when you floor the accelerator every suspension bolt loosens half a turn, it’s both crashy and soft and has 1 party truck of going quick on a smooth straight road.16vCento wrote: Fri Feb 28, 2025 11:55 am For £350 a month I'd be going MG4.

I’m in Belgium and ordered a part for the Clio, had a nose around a few R5s they have in stock and am really impressed, as an object it has a lot of appeal and if the dash lighting isn’t too bright at night, the interior works really well.
I’ll take mine in white or yellow.

Dash lighting has a seperate "Night" mode you can adjust for preference. The dash and the screen can be adjusted independently iircV8Granite wrote: Tue Mar 04, 2025 11:13 amThe problem is though the MG4 is bloody awful. Then this is definitely on the list for the future for a runabout, the looks just absolutely make it.
Range is crap but it’s nice to see Renault making something desirable.

Re: Renault 5 - Test drive
Surprised to see the alpine versions uses the same battery, so exchanges more power for less range, at quite a decent cost uplift. Either it needs to be a huge step up in driving experience or you have to really want the alpine to choose it over a standard 5
Re: Renault 5 - Test drive
Yep - the main attraction on the 5 is the affordability. A faster one with less range for more money doesn't appeal.jamcg wrote: Tue Mar 04, 2025 1:10 pm Surprised to see the alpine versions uses the same battery, so exchanges more power for less range, at quite a decent cost uplift. There's also a rather big whiff of both having given up on life and Ronnie Pickering about the MG.V8Granite wrote: Tue Mar 04, 2025 11:13 amThe problem is though the MG4 is bloody awful. Re: Renault 5 - Test drive
They don't look unlike an id3 or Cupra Born but with a big chunk of of extra performance for less money?
Re: Renault 5 - Test drive
A bit like a Cupra Born from Wish.
Re: Renault 5 - Test drive
That’s what the joke is about Tesla with the kids around Deeping

New R5 'Turbo' 3E. Yes please, I'll have one of those

Re: Renault 5 - Test drive
540bhp is interesting, but 1450kg is more interesting. RWD with a separate motor per wheel.
Re: Renault 5 - Test drive
Everything I've read about it reports a price of "well over £100,000" which for a 540bhp 1450kg soulless car with just a cool bodykit once again puts it firmly in the not bothered category.
How about not having a sig at all?
Re: Renault 5 - Test drive
Yeah I don't understand why we get these mad models with supercar pricing.
What happened to things like the Clio V6? More expensive, but not absurdly so (£26k in 2003, so £46k today)

£46k if you simply convert for inflation. I bet it would be more than that though - into the £60k plus I reckonMatty wrote: Tue Mar 18, 2025 12:58 pm Yeah I don't understand why we get these mad models with supercar pricing.
