Classic car hire Italy
I’m looking at renting a classic car to drive around either Tuscany or Puglia end of next month..
Something like this - https://www.noleggioautodepoca.eu/en/au ... let---1989 , or the Morgan appeals
Has anyone done anything similar? Any recommendations would be appreciated.

Never done so - but it looks awesome!
(Assuming you have experience of driving in Italy and having to adjust your style to drive like an Italian if you want to actually get anywhere, and that the insurance excess isn't mindbending if a 3rd party Italian puts a mark on it for you).

I didn't find the driving in Italy that bad, apart from the nuns in a Panda that flew past us.

I want to get from A to B
ETA : Tempting!
It would be nice to get something Italian - may help with the Carabinieri - maybe a Maser Grancabrio would be fun? Wanted something older ideally

From this website my choices would be 1959 Alfa Giulietta, Autobianchi Bianchina or classic mini for Italian job feels, none of them are in the slightest bit quick though so maybe get the gt3 touring you postedIanF wrote: Sat Feb 15, 2025 4:09 pm I’m looking at renting a classic car to drive around either Tuscany or Puglia end of next month..

Yeah, I should clarify - the gt3 was a joke! I’ve been looking at a website called slowdrive so definitely not looking to lose license… not being in a hurry anywhere generally is the aim

Definitely this then

Re: Classic car hire Italy
Sort of is
https://www.noleggioautodepoca.eu/en/au ... Lake-Garda
And with a whole 50cc engine you definitely won’t get caught speeding

Re: Classic car hire Italy
944S2 cab would be perfect I reckon. Old enough to have some charm, fast enough for your needs (they need some revs to pick up their skirts though). And the pop-up lights will keep you entertained.
Edit: that one has the standard as opposed to more heavily bolstered Sports seats - they are very comfortable.

You see, I’m my own worst enemy
Looking at this, http://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202501087841306 , and thinking how lovely would that look in Italy in the sunshine and how much would it lose if I sold it when I got back..

ETA - vid clicky but no noise!

Re: Classic car hire Italy
Would be this one for me out of that collection:
https://www.noleggioautodepoca.eu/en/au ... alfi-Coast
But yes, Maser Grandcabrio would be sweet...
ETA if you do don't get an MC Shift just a normal Auto. My dad's MC Shift nearly overheated the box in the queue for the Montblanc tunnel

Buying from a dealer & then trading back in with a dealer ? It would be cheaper to hire the GT3.IanF wrote: Sun Feb 16, 2025 1:22 pm Looking at this, http://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202501087841306 , and thinking how lovely would that look in Italy in the sunshine and how much would it lose if I sold it when I got back..![]()

Maybe in absolute terms but not likely on a per diem basis assuming Ian keeps in for a couple of months.Sundayjumper wrote: Sun Feb 16, 2025 3:12 pmBuying from a dealer & then trading back in with a dealer ? Overall cost once you’ve resold it will be less than a decent rental, and that V8 is a superb continent crosser.

Yeah, had lunch with my parents and even my dad (who hates Porsche for some reason) said that would be good fun.. @GG. option is tempting also as I’ve never driven a car that old before.. and is good looking and based in Sorrentomik wrote: Sun Feb 16, 2025 12:15 pm 944S2 cab would be perfect I reckon. Similar to Jim’s (good) idea. Not sure if these work for you.

Re: Classic car hire Italy
I wonder if there’s a Turo equivalent in Italy, you might have some luck finding what you want with a peer to peer rental app.
