I'm liking this, looks great and brilliant spec too, even though it's a diesel. Also been hearing conflicting reports about the DPF, some people saying it's easy to clear as long as you do 10 - 15 minutes at >2k RPM once a week which is easily doable. But then again, a new DPF is £1k + fitting so maybe not worth the risk

Renault 5 fully spec'd will cost £29,000. Looks decent and priced well with a decent battery unlike the Honda E which was destined to fail.But all limited to 93mph (150kph). <sigh>

I can't speak for the modern ones, but a colleague had an Altea about 10yrs ago and the DPF drove them round the twist. It wouldn't clear despite them doing a lap of the M60 once a week. They'd have to take it into the dealership every other month. Only problem with R-Line cars is that on the Golf my insurance quotes went from £700 to £1,900 simply by changing from a TSI SE to R-Line

TBF, I wouldn't entertain a high mileage modern car (by modern I mean anything after c2010 ish). And especially not anything from the VAG.
Let's just say I'd trust my E91 to outlive our Superb.*
*probably shouldn't have said that with its MOT on Monday
And
at the insurance differences. I'm not a fan of the Arteon tbh. After much research I figured out that it was the only car in the VAG stable that was a twin of the Superb, save for badging etc. And internally the build quality just did not justify the badge premium. If anything, the Skoda felt better put together.
Let's just say I'd trust my E91 to outlive our Superb.*

Went out car hunting today and looked at a few. I was heading over to Milton Keynes to check out a Passat GT TDI which looked very cool and sleek. Popped into a very friendly used car dealer in Newmarket to see what they had but nothing shone out.
Then in a whirlwind I have more-or-less decided to rent a little home outside of London, I viewed it and now need to make the call about whether to go ahead with it.
In light of the potential new home being at the top of a small hill down a muddy lane in rural Suffolk, combined with the fact I would need to do the ~55 miles down the M11 into town quite regularly, I went over to Cambridge to check out the white Ateca linked at the top of this page. It was essentially faultless, perfect main dealer service record, matching tyres, high spec with every extra I could want to make it fun. Talking to Sundayjumper after the test drive, he commented how there doesn’t seem to be any reason not to buy it. Which is true frankly.
Just need to confirm tomorrow, house and car
FWIW Marshall were great to deal with, ’normal’ friendly sales guy and nice manager. They really didn’t want to budge on price but agreed to give 24 months warranty for an extra £100. They run their own warranty scheme which I hope is better than a sketchy third party one.
