I need to work out how to disconnect the vacuum tubes (or the electrical supply to them) to enable me to do a proper cold start on the GTS. As I posted before, it seems that the valves don't fully open for c.30 seconds after start up even with the sports exhaust switched on (which I guess is ECU nannying).

Irritatingly, unlike the 997 it seems very difficult to get access to the engine bay on these later cars.

ETA:

Doesn't seem like this is going to happen... Although interestingly on the topic of dismantling the rear end... the wing is now sitting a couple of centimetres proud on the right hand side. Apparently this is caused by a plastic locating tab which keeps a spring in place snapping (which it does regularly). £2,000 to fix apparently so will see if that can be done under warranty when its in for a service in November.

The valve, solenoid and lines are all located on the left side of the engine (red arrow). You will need to remove the rear wing at a minimum. If this is the first time doing this, you may want to also remove the airbox for more room. For additional assistance with those tasks please see our articles and videos.

That's not a cold, cold start, is it?

My 650 had a surprisingly loud initial start followed by higher RPM's for 30 seconds or so, until it eventually settled at 500rpm.

The N62 is a very nice sounding engine. Much better than BMW's turbo V8s that followed after.

I was sorely disappointed at the F01 750i's sound. It was so quiet and refined that you'd be hard pressed to work out it was a V8.

That's what I thought. Another addition to the parental fleet?

Pretty sure it was parked up from overnight and I just washed it the next morning and then filmed this, so cold start. Cold vs hot starts sound pretty much the same volume, just idles slightly higher. I presume it's an emissions thing and newer cars push much more air through the exhaust on start up. Went from Euro 3-4-5 all within a decade so that's probably the difference.

Yes but it's been an addition for probably 10 years, maybe more!

Just remembered there's an old video of it but not a cold start.

Old phone mic doesn't do it justice, it's very loud and pops and burbles all the time. The later W12s lost all of that character.

I'll get a cold start video of the Mustang tomorrow. It's obnoxiously loud.
