Paris Olympics
Re: Paris Olympics
I've seen a lot of winners this time out just stick with their pace, not panic when someone goes ahead, not react, trust the plan etc and eventually come good.
It's probably always like that but I'm noticing it more - particularly in the swimming and rowing

I saw one yesterday but can't find it now. He said "I'm just a normal guy from Lewisham...", the interviewer said something like "no you're not, you're an olympic gold medallist" and he got the hugest lump in his throat and looked like he was about to burst into tears, bless him.duncs500 wrote: Thu Aug 01, 2024 8:49 am Anyone seen any Alex Yee interviews after his win? I can't seem to find one.
From what I've heard it sounds like Wilde had run down to empty by going out hard at the start of the run and Yee managed to find a tiny bit more at the end of the race. Nothing planned or tactical, he simply had more in the tank. Also, Yee's 10k time was sub-30 mins

Re: Paris Olympics
Also Yee's perofmrance supports what people say in triathlon, that it's the runners who win the races, because Yee came out the water in 15th place, 27 seconds down on the leader.

Conversation here was "which event is the easiest", as in, a layperson turning up and having a go, not to win, but to not make an utter hash of it either. Consensus settled on 10m air pistol.

It's a sad state of affairs with the Algerian women's boxer. Loads of anti trans hate online but I've also read that she isn't trans and was born with female genitalia has been raised and lives as a female but has abnormal chromosone, dsd type make up like Castor Semenya.

You have to draw a line somewhere though don't you? It's not just like she's faster than another athlete (like Semenya) - she's actually fighting.Carlos wrote: Thu Aug 01, 2024 2:29 pm It's a sad state of affairs with the Algerian women's boxer. I'm not sure I know what the right answer is tbh.
Be interesting to see what happens if everyone refuses to fight them.

Re: Paris Olympics
Interesting article showed the bonuses the winners receive from their home country, it was mostly smaller countries giving the biggest pay outs for medals and Hong Kong was top of the board with a Gold winner receiving ~£587k per medal!
Cheers,

Got to keep those athletes on side somehow - don't want them defecting to the UK or the like. Surprised HK are still represented as such and not just wrapped up into China fully.IanF wrote: Thu Aug 01, 2024 3:35 pm Interesting article showed the bonuses the winners receive from their home country, it was mostly smaller countries giving the biggest pay outs for medals and Hong Kong was top of the board with a Gold winner receiving ~£587k per medal!

Was that what the Turkish guy who just turned up in normal everyday glasses, pair of earplugs, one hand in his pocket and got silver was doing?Sundayjumper wrote: Thu Aug 01, 2024 2:16 pm Conversation here was "which event is the easiest", as in, a layperson turning up and having a go, not to win, but to not make an utter hash of it either. Turkish dude was mixed shooting event, but he still bossed it. Not into the BS specialist glasses everyone is wearing for it. Should be unaided.
How about not having a sig at all?

They did draw a line and they were on the right side of it.Swervin_Mervin wrote: Thu Aug 01, 2024 3:34 pmYou have to draw a line somewhere though don't you? Ok. Care to define what that line is?ZedLeg wrote: Thu Aug 01, 2024 8:37 pmThey did draw a line and they were on the right side of it.Swervin_Mervin wrote: Thu Aug 01, 2024 3:34 pmYou have to draw a line somewhere though don't you? There's been very little detail in the press about what previous tests were carried out, either by the IOC or IBA, and what I have read suggests very little opacity on what those tests were.
Re: Paris Olympics
I’m looking at the same info as you so I can’t
What I can say is that the Algerian woman has boxed and lost at the Olympics before and no one gave a shit till the likes of Rowling and Davies started calling her a man on social media.

Re: Paris Olympics
It says she was born a woman ? I don’t know what to believe though as there are so many articles about it.
I’m confused by the internet today, so either she was born with a penis and testicles or she is a genetic anomaly which has created this problem.
She was banned before by the IBF for having high testosterone, which a lot of female athletes do now anyway (please see square jawed crossfitters) but was she biologically born male for the high readings or was it trying to cheat ?
Dave!

Re: Paris Olympics
She wasn’t born male and the IBF have specifically said they didn’t test for testosterone. It was some kind of chromosome test apparently.
My personal theory is that the IBF used a convenient excuse to disqualify a champion they didn’t like and have decided to stick to the lie. It’s been picked up by the usual ghouls and fascists until it’s now a harrassment campaign.
