Re: Paris Olympics
You've just given me a good reason not to watch it too lol
Re: Paris Olympics
Not rehearsed and can’t you tell!
Re: Paris Olympics
It just gets worse and worse. Also the Assassin's Creed chap is getting annoying.

Re: Paris Olympics
They showed the lady gaga bit on the news and it looked bloody awful. Zero desire to watch any more tbh!
Cheers, Harry
Re: Paris Olympics
If someone could find a supercut of cringe once it's over, I'd appreciate it.
Re: Paris Olympics
Was watching it in the pub. We’re undecided on a holiday at the moment so it was handy to see all the Countries on the boats throwing us ideas.
Re: Paris Olympics
I honestly thought the Lady Gaga bit was a French impersonator, because Lady Gaga is a decent singer but whatever that was, was also shit!

Re: Paris Olympics
Ok so it’s obvious that third world countries will have fewer athletes and thus a smaller boat, but some of them are on boats barely bigger than a dinghy and considering what’s happening it’s not a good look.

Nothing will beat the London 2012 opening. Ever.

Yeah, I think not having it in the stadium was a mistake, the purpose of holding an event outside is so more people can attend. But Paris looked more quiet than during peak lockdown. Almost as if every road around the event had been shut for miles with very few spectators.
By having it outside they created a security problem so had to have it on the river, then got rid of all the people too. So they managed to make a crap problem and implemented a crap solution.

Re: Paris Olympics
I thought bits of it were really good and the idea of not using the stadium had loads of promise, but it just felt a little bit amateurish. Getting the athletes on the boats rather than walking round the track was genius. But 4 hours of it?! Wow.
Mrs Mike is now watching the dancing horses so is happy, although we've had to subscribe to Discovery+ as the Beeb doesn't seem to have much on the red button.
They also missed an opportunity to have Alan Partridge commentate on it like with the coronation.
Talking of Partridge, I see one of the performers had a nut hanging out of their shorts. Another Partridge reference.

Re: Paris Olympics
That was a bit macabre but indeed awesome.
Re: Paris Olympics
Nail on head.
I watched 20mins of the boats going by and a load of cross-dresser (or non-binary, or LBGTQ+, I've realised I don't know what the correct collective term is, or even if you're allowed to use a collective term?) people dancing around. It was interesting. I didn't realise that was such an important part of French culture or how it was related to the Olympics. Not that I ever really like the opening ceremonies to sports events!
