So this just arrived

Very pleased so far - the colouring and finishing is excellent

Mad to think this cost £165 (and uses a Seiko NH34 automatic movement)

Great lume too (this is just from ambient light, I've not shone a torch on it etc)

Have been following Marloe for a little while as an interesting, fairly new British start up. Quite like their new Daytimer range...

That looks quite nice in the Tableau version with yellow.

Only looked quickly, but their Daytimer range display the coveted "Swiss Made" text at the bottom of the dial, but the other ranges don't appear to :?:

I don't know the background to 'Swiss Made'. Is it a certification of reaching a certain standard of manufacturing?

I'm no expert, and it's mainly a marketing "tool" as far as I can see : from wiki

Most often associated with watches or timepieces made in Switzerland, Swiss law considers a watch to be Swiss made if its technical development is carried out in Switzerland, its movement is Swiss, if its movement is cased up in Switzerland, if the final inspection of the watch is conducted by the manufacturer in Switzerland, at least 60 per cent of the manufacturing costs are incurred in Switzerland.

I recently saw on YouTube this guy who just bought watch parts off aliexpress and put them together and ended up with a very nice custom made watch for under £100.
I thought it’s a very novel idea and was totally unaware at how DIYable it all is - tempted to give it a go myself.
How about not having a sig at all?

Lots of this happening, yeah

Did he also cost up the various tools etc that he used?

Peanuts, entire watch tool kits on Aliexpress for a few quid.

I suspect you might as well get a San Martin watch as above for £165 as opposed to using the same bits to make something that probably won't be as good. Unless you're particularly desperate to make a watch... :D

Seems like a lot of work when you can just buy in a movement. Does 'swiss made' add much more kudos?

Funnily enough I just bought something nearly identical to that but made by a company called Seestern (German for octopus)

It cost me £95 delivered during the recent AliExpress sale

I assume the marketing folks think so.

Whether it actually makes any difference to buyers is another matter.

Just watching F1 FP3 on TV and Christopher Ward have the most cringe advert - I think it was written Broccers. “Do your research”
Erm really?

That’s a massively expensive 4D gel bubble plate on your wrist. Jeez.
