I'm just back from Menorca and whilst I appreciate the traffic is much lighter, the roads were a revelation. It would be interesting to see the ratio of investment vs here as a % of road traffic.

Councils use independent contractors for most things such as road works. It's just another area where money is pissed up the wall.

we all need to go back to 15" wheels with 55 sidewalls.

185/60/15 & 175/65/15 here. I can't say they don't help but I've had instances when I've stopped to check for damage and lost a nsf damper recently (aged and worn to a degree though it was, it had still been doing something - not now). A wider tyre might help prevent the wheel falling into a hole but then a lower profile would be needed. Whatever you do, things are so fecked there'll be somewhere that catches you out.

Weather and traffic volume are 2 very critical factors. There are plenty of places over here with great roads fwiw.

Weather. Especially our winters where it fluctuates either side of freezing instead of staying one side or the other.

The awkward mix of lots of rain, damp chilly winters and a couple of weeks a year where it’s hot enough to melt the roads.

Plus years of poorly applied surface dressing which creates ruts and broken surfaces.

I reported a bunch of potholes 2 months ago, just had a look on their fault tracker to see what’s happened as the large potholes are now craters. They all say the following:

“enquiry attended - more work needed”

What does that mean? In previous instances they used to write something like “investigated - repairs planned”
