State of the Roads
Re: State of the Roads
I'm just back from Menorca and whilst I appreciate the traffic is much lighter, the roads were a revelation. It would be interesting to see the ratio of investment vs here as a % of road traffic.
Re: State of the Roads
Yup, I went to Menorca about 6 years ago and was blown away by how smooth all the roads were. Maybe someone is ripping us off?

Does a bear shit in the woods
Councils use independent contractors for most things such as road works. It's just another area where money is pissed up the wall.

How about not having a sig at all?
Re: State of the Roads
185/60/15 & 175/65/15 here. I can't say they don't help but I've had instances when I've stopped to check for damage and lost a nsf damper recently (aged and worn to a degree though it was, it had still been doing something - not now). A wider tyre might help prevent the wheel falling into a hole but then a lower profile would be needed. Whatever you do, things are so fecked there'll be somewhere that catches you out.

Weather and traffic volume are 2 very critical factors. There are plenty of places over here with great roads fwiw.Simon wrote: Wed May 29, 2024 10:38 pm Yup, I went to Menorca about 6 years ago and was blown away by how smooth all the roads were. Maybe someone is ripping us off?
But definitely not in the NW

Weather. Especially our winters where it fluctuates either side of freezing instead of staying one side or the other.

Re: State of the Roads
The awkward mix of lots of rain, damp chilly winters and a couple of weeks a year where it’s hot enough to melt the roads.
Plus years of poorly applied surface dressing which creates ruts and broken surfaces.

Weeds and overgrown verges and kerbs are not what make Great Yarmouth look worse than a war zone. It's the fact that it's Great Yarmouth.Beany wrote: Tue Jun 11, 2024 6:12 pm

And shirley Trading standards need to have a word with them about the use of the word "Great".

From the article:

"The bodies of Jenny Smith, and her great uncle David Munroe, were found behind the bushes at the bottom of the play area, partially consumed. The snail has never been found but should be considered extremely dangerous"

The snails are legendary. I think everyone who’s ever lived in Norfolk has been on them at least once

Re: State of the Roads
I reported a bunch of potholes 2 months ago, just had a look on their fault tracker to see what’s happened as the large potholes are now craters. They all say the following:
“enquiry attended - more work needed”
What does that mean? In previous instances they used to write something like “investigated - repairs planned”

Ahh, that will be a mix of Union and H+S loonery.
“Right here Gary, I can cut that out, put in a good base, knock it down, Chuck some asphalt in and it’ll be done by lunch ok”
Mr Union and Mr H+S
“Well you need 2 lollipop men, we have the disc cutter so there is a noise and vibration issue, not to mention the musculoskeletal possibilities, which will
Need a job hazard analysis /‘d a risk assessment”
“Plus as I work in an office I’ll have to visit the site in my clean hi viz waistcoat and shiny helmet to look at the home to
Confirm that it is a hole”
“Then the tarmac needs heating with flame……..”
At that point Mr Health and Safety fainted, the final
Job needed 4 vehicles just to transport all the people there, then the morning of the job it looked like rain so they cancelled it and lost all the people to other pointless jobs.
Dave!
