I brown it in the butter at the end, I do realise the steaming part marks me out as a raging vegetablist but I feel between friends I can admit that.

No idea what a correct fry up would be as I've probably had about 5 of them in my life. If i'm making breakfast for myself it rarely extends beyond 2 fried eggs, a side of cheese and a slice of extremely thin toast.
How about not having a sig at all?

# fried/roasted tomatoes = 0
# portions of beans on the plate = 1

There is no correct mix of contents for a fry up. Stick that on your plate and mop up the bean juice/bacon fat/tommyk/brown sauce with it!

HOWEVER

Any "fry up" which doesn't include at least one fried egg and "some" bacon is not a fry up worth having in my book. They are 2 absolutes for me.

I do think the Scots have an edge as tattie scones, square sausage and haggis are supreme breakfast foods.

Should the bacon be crispy? I feel not but a friend of mine disappeared to America for 6 months and when she came back it was so brittle you would mistake it for crisps.

I have a new found love of streaky bacon. It should be crispy.

Back bacon in a roll should be crispy as I want to eat it all without delving in with my fingers.

Back bacon in a fry up (or otherwise on a plate) should not be crispy, as I can easily cut the fat off.

Firm with brown fat but not crispy is optimum IMO. Definitely don't want stretchy white fat, that's for sure, rather crispy than that.

This guy I follow on instagram cooks the same fry up (and posts it!) every Sunday with only minor variations! Looks pretty nailed on to me, other than he has mustard instead of HP sauce which is quite odd :lol:

I'm disappointed nobody has pointed out that omelette is misspelt.

As for the meal in question I'll decide on the day. But no black or white pudding.

I'm with @Sundayjumper on the pancakes. A regular weekend treat here too.

Also coffee is required, and if there's a croissant or pain au raisins, I'll happily have that.
