That's no real surprise, there was curiousity when it first started. I signed in using my insta, I've not been back since I first set it up though.

For all that it's significantly more fucked than it was a year ago, Twitter is still the place to be online if you're not a kid or a conspiracy obsessed auntie.

Agreed, despite the constant drama, it's still way more engaging, with more genuine conversation than anywhere else, e.g. mastodon, threads etc.

Looks like a stories-esque addition, however even stories on TikTok are a bit of a flop.

TikTok really needs to get it's ass moving and introduce the creativity programme over here. They've trialled it in the US and France, where they pay creators around $0.80RPM for qualifying posts over 1 minute in length. It would be a complete game-changer for the platform. Currently in the UK, a multi-million view, viral post could earn someone £30 or so via the creator fund. In the US, a similar post could earn someone ~$1,500. Basically, it turns TikTok from a hobby into a real way to earn money. It's rumoured to being arriving here, but there's been no announcements. The cynical part of me thinks that the only reason they trialled it over there was to woo the Americans after all the controversy about TikTok earlier in the year. You know it's true that the most powerful language in the US is $$$.

almost like everyone joined it to be in there from the beginning just in case it launched big, but kept on with their Twitter accounts anyway because that's where all their followers were...

The problem with threads is you seem to get shown loads of random crap you don’t follow and don’t care about. The algorithm doesn’t really work for me.

That's a blatant attempt to copy Twitter showing random crap which you don't follow or care about. Particularly reaction-seeking cnuts like Jeremy Vine, Julia Hartley-Brewer or Lawrence Fox.

Musk needs to win back advertisers, so he's functionally extorting them.

"Spend $x00 on ads in a month or we'll take your checkmark away"

https://www.theregister.com/2023/07/26/ ... _again_to/

I'm sure Eli Lilly will appreciate that, and it'll probably end up in the court case they're currently in with Twitter for, you know, the billions of lost revenue due to Twitters checkmark system letting them be spoofed. Which if they don't spend ad money on, will be taken away from them....

Musk is, reportedly, self medicating himself ketamine microdosing. I think perhaps he misheard that microdosing was just snorting one line, not three - it'd certainly explain the last week

Odds on her account being gone by the weekend, not by choice?

We all know how Musk feels about public criticism - even mixed praise - by his ex-employees.

Yeah, so existing users will see it is X on their home screens, but new users will have to search for Twitter on the App Store - searching for "X" won't find it.

My app still has the bird logo though too.

They put an X on the head office, without permission from the city.
