If someone is keen enough on my car to break in with at least 2 of them probably more (1 to drive their car, 2 to drive ours away) I am not keen to have them linger inside looking for keys or whatever. If they get that far I want the cars gone and do not want them back!
Correct. Even the immobiliser talk - why? You want to provoke them further?

Disklok is different imo, look in the window and spot the highly visible deterrent and move on to another driveway.
The Evo forum really is a shadow of its former self. I remember when the internet was for the elite and now they seem to let any spastic on

Haven’t thought about it that way but I live in a flat with 200 other apartments. Then again what if they go to steal your car and it has a genuine flat battery? I doubt they would torture you until you actually got it started - they’d probably move on to the next car.
How about not having a sig at all?

As the police told us when we were burgled you just need to make your property less appealing than next door's. It is a sad state of affairs, but is not without merit as a mechanism for protecting your possessions.

That. Hence my comments about cameras. And I always change any euro cylinders for proper 3* Yale/ultion anti snap jobs too - anything at all that might make people move on.

They were after a golf R, unless anyone else on the street has one his hose was already 1000x more appealing than anyone else’s.

A diskloc is a great deterrent to cloning / wireless thefts, but would make zero difference to someone breaking into a house and stealing keys unless you’re going to keep the key to it separate to the car key which would be a major pain in the arse and then gets you back to the question of do you really want them spending longer than necessary in your property?

IMO, the ones actually entering a house are already a step nastier than those who just wave laptops around outside your front door and I personally wouldn’t want to see what else they might do.

Absolutely true, but I guess the challenge then switches to making your home less appealing than those of other local GolfR owners. Really shit that we have to think/behave like this at all. :(

After cars were stolen in our street I added 2 more cameras with wifi cloud backups and installed deadbolts on all exterior doors. Ive also got a CCTV sign in the front window. Two of the cameras point at the garages and one covers the back garden and house. None of which would stop them if they were determined im sure but as per above you would hope it makes our house less attractive.

I wondered if that was still a thing - it seems everyone in the world has a fairly up to date smartphone these days so is an iphone worth that much to a mugger? Sorry to hear that it is still a thing, anyway. Probably a 17-20yr old crack addict whose main source of income has just dried up.

Probably worth knocking the door and asking to buy it back for £20?

Where in town were you? It happened around us (Bernie dart St) for a couple of months last summer.
Police advice was not to walk near the road and have it to your ear on the building side rather than road side and they’ll just move on to the next opportunity.

Yep - rampant in London unfortunately. 90k being stolen per year so 250 per day every day of the year.

The guy didn't look like a crack addict - way too much co-ordination. He cycled up directly behind me so I couldn't see him and snatched it out my had whilst moving along at 10-15mph and then accelerated off into the distance. Absolutely no chance to react or chase after - he also angled it so I never even saw his face so clearly not his first rodeo!

Transiting Elephant and Castle so not surpising. They're doing a lot of work to it but that stretch of London from Borough to Greenwich x Walworth and Peckham is still the largest concentrated shithole in London. Funnily enough that was the direction the RR went in too after it got nicked. I'm starting to have sympathy with the mindset of the London planners that razed Victorian slums to the ground and started from scratch (not that it helped).

Sorry to make light of your situation - I was referring to the young person who Huw Edwards was paying. Not sure if a lol emoji is appropriate.

Haha - whoosh parrot. I was reading too quickly and missed the reference to income drying up

I've managed to sort it out - just the several years of pictures of my son that is the most upsetting but live and learn - everything shall certainly be properly backed up going forward...

If it’s an iPhone and you’ve had the correct settings switched on they should restore to a new iPhone if you load it up from an iCloud backup

Can't restore what's not been backed up - my photos aren't backed up to iCloud because I'm not paying Apple for extra storage. They are, though, backed up to my Mac Mini at home and Onedrive, but the restore process would not be quite the same.

Ah I see. I pay the extra just for the convenience and because I don’t have any computers/laptops, just an iPad, so it’s just easier for me to pay for the storage, it’s just gone up actually. To 99p a month
