Re: EOTR on Golf and TTS (robbing b4stards)

Cunts.
One thing my mechanic taught me which I have on my cars is this

Modern cars have multiple fuse boxes, so pick a vital function in the least accessible one and connect the switch to it and hide it very well.

How about not having a sig at all?

Damn, what an awful thing to happen, but, in a way, glad you didn’t wake up whilst it was happening. Hope you get a decent and quick payout.

Well my wife had the TTS insured and they agreed a payout today. We paid 7500 over a year back and after their initial offer of £7k we rejected, we did some haggling with the aid of the original invoice which handily had all options with prices and ended up on 9100 which is better than a kick in the proverbials.
We bought a wee R53 Mini Cooper with JCW kit at the weekend after the incident with the cracked windscreen in the courtesy car and we both really like it so it is going to stay as my wife works 5 or 6 miles from home and had been commuting in the TT.
To replace the Golf I think I am going to get a newer Octavia VRS petrol or possibly a Superb Sport, the subtle one with 280 brake, although they are rare as hen's teeth.

I parked the X5 at the airport last week. Unfortunately nobody stole it.16vCento wrote: Tue Jul 11, 2023 5:51 pm I bought a tuning box kit minus the actual tuning box off eBay, it came as the wiring loom to piggyback the fuel rail plug with a dummy box if you wanted the car go back to standard.
You plug the loom into the fuel rail wiring (plug and play) and when I'm away I take the little dummy box out, which cuts the fuel.

Presumably no sign of then stolen cars?

So they've smashed in the front/back door to get the keys and then they find they can't start the car. What do you think they'll do next?Mito Man wrote: Thu Jul 06, 2023 10:24 pm Cunts.

Even makes your wonder about hiding the keys. If they've already broken into the house, do you really want them in the house for any longer than necessary? Or asking where the keys are?
The Evo forum really is a shadow of its former self. I remember when the internet was for the elite and now they seem to let any spastic on

You'd hope they'd leg it, car thieves know that police won't do anything about them, but it's probably a different matter if they've threatened or got into a physical altercation with the owner.

Horrible when this happens - looks like the insurance people are being reasonable which is a shock

Re: EOTR on Golf and TTS (robbing b4stards)
Cheers all.
Yes, although my insurance has still to cough up, quite why the peeps on the phone are not qualified to look at aurotrader and read numbers, I am not sure but I called today to give them the crime number and the chap said that if we agree the value on Monday, the chaps payment is more or less on the spot so still a chance I will be able to get a car sorted next week when I am off.
No word or sign of the cars as yet @scotta I don't really expect to, or maybe a call in a few weeks to say they were found burnt out somewhere.
Agreed about taking the keys, If the keys had been hidden I don't want to take the chance they will scarper with two kids and my wife (and me) in the house. Cars can be replaced, I was going to say easily but certainly easily enough that I am not risking my family's safety for one.

Re: EOTR on Golf and TTS (robbing b4stards)
Really sorry to hear this - I hadn't opened this thread as I thought it was a standard EOTR report

Having been through this myself recently its a deeply unpleasant experience. Whatever you get next time I'd have a proper third party immobiliser fitted to it.
Crime overall seems to be absolutely rampant in the UK. I had my iphone snatched out of my hand on the way to work last week so had a couple of days from hell sorting that out. Plus there was an issue with the iCloud backup and I've lost 3 years worth of photos and data. Police can't search the house the phone is in without a warrant even though the findmy app shows them exactly where it is...
I'm afraid we're going to have to bring back summary executions by roving death squads.

Re: EOTR on Golf and TTS (robbing b4stards)
Bloody hell @GG. that is rubbish. Similar to cars, they can be replaced, it is bots n the cars, and I guess the pics etc that are the worst for you.
If someone is keen enough on my car to break in with at least 2 of them probably more (1 to drive their car, 2 to drive ours away) I am not keen to have them linger inside looking for keys or whatever. If they get that far I want the cars gone and do not want them back!

Re: EOTR on Golf and TTS (robbing b4stards)
Really sorry to hear this, both.
Gavin, perhaps invest in a Disklok if you get anything decent next time round. Especially if it's German/Ford/keyless. I know they can be taken off, but it isn't easy and the scum don't like to draw attention to themselves. Hence why they love pinching cars with relay devices (I can't believe that car manufacturers haven't done more about this).
GG, that's crazy about the phone. Our system is making it too easy for crims - they know the police are stretched thin, they know cops won't really investigate, and they know it's highly likely they'll get away with it. They're encouraged, not detered.

Re: EOTR on Golf and TTS (robbing b4stards)
Also, I agree with GG about getting an immobiliser. There's plenty out there - Ghost, Pandora, Viper.

Indeed. They don't like to accumulate a long list of potential crimes; they usually want to get the car as easily as possible and get out quick.Rich B wrote: Wed Jul 12, 2023 11:51 am You'd hope they'd leg it, car thieves know that police won't do anything about them, but it's probably a different matter if they've threatened or got into a physical altercation with the owner.
