Really struggling to find something to swap the XF for.

Quite fancy a few things, maybe a Scirocco, a Paceman, a Clubman,

Just needs to be smaller, but at least 4 proper seats, don't need 2 big cars and the wife is on her own in it most of the time.

Quite like the new Swift Sports but the boot is too small for the big dog to fit

I wanted an XK but the boot is too shallow and the rear seats too small, and it's not really any smaller on the outside, width wise anyway.

A V40 might be ideal, but it's hard to find a 5 Cylinder petrol one.

Shame they never made a sprightly version of the Yeti as that would have been ideal in 4x4 guide, maybe a mapped 1.8tsi might be fun.

Scirocco rear seats are only good for short journeys if you have anything approaching legs!

Only needed for two sevenish year olds rarely and the boot has to fit the dog.

I wish the R was AWD

How big is the dog as the boot is not large?

There are four hoses connected to the tank. Two at the top two at the bottom. The bit that I can't quite understand the point of is the mysterious fourth one. Off another device comes a hose that has a t-junction in it. The inflow is at the left side of the t, and the two outflows are right and bottom respectively. The right one goes to one of the top spigots on the expansion tank and the bottom (on the t) goes to the fourth spigot at the bottom of the tank.

I would have thought removing the t-junction and just going to the top spigot as it appears is the way Ford assumes it should be done would make no difference. But why have it like that in the first place? If there is no need for the fourth hose (anymore/ever?) You'd have thought Ford would supply some instructions about what to do with the surplus one.

It's a lot more suitable than an XK!

The XK boot is big but not tall, our Lab is about 28kg and 5"5 on her hind legs, she fits in the A3 boot fine, with other luggage, so a Skyrocket should be fine as they're similar sized.

Just need to find a few cars to try!

The expansion tank saga continues. Indie took the old one out to take pictures and send them to Ford. They're not the same part number, but so far they've been adamant that it is the only version, which begs the question: what to do with the fourth pipe?

It's possible they've done away with different versions and just supply the one that can fit all now, though when I've had that with VAGs the parts cat. has notes attached along the lines of "for vehicles A,B,C fit additional parts X,Y,Z". You sound like you're having Harry's Countach gears type luck

You can get 2 Rottweilers in the back of a mk1 TT with the back seats down and smiles on their faces.

It would be very helpful where we live, m+s tyres don't always get us home so it would be nice to have.

Shame they never did a AWD Scirocco.

TT would be a MK2 or 3, and the dog would have to go in the boot sometimes so I'm guessing thats out.

Yes on occasion it will have 4 people and a dog on board.

2 child seats in the back but only one most of the time.

I guess I might have to look into smaller child seats as well as ours are absolutely massive.

I might go try a Veloster, they have 2 doors on the passenger side and the boot looks decent.

Not many turbos about though.

4 seats - tick - rear seats generously sized
normal boot though - if your dog has a particularly relaxed temperament - that might work

944/968? Too small in the rear seats? Too old?

Needs to be newish, let's say probably 2012 onwards, so it's safe should the worst happen.

My wife's commute is over roads that are almost single track roads every day hence a smaller car (or narrower) would be helpful as it's pretty tight up there at some points.

As much as I'd love a 944 or 968 she hated driving my 924, and they are getting on a bit now.

I think I want the moon on a stick here, and I'll have to compromise somewhere.

Maybe a Clubman Cooper S would be a halfway house, I just know how horribly unreliable our previous Mini was and that puts me off.

How about an S3? Four door option, dug fits in boot, Quattro, fun-ish, smaller.
