The standard Model 3 is now £3k more than when it was released in the U.K. nearly 4 years ago. That’s way below inflation.

A Google shows that it was launched at £38,900 for a 'standard range plus' after the £3500 government grant. Their cheapest car is now £42,990. Is that like for like?

Base model 3 is a way better car now. New nicer interior, powered boot, double glazing, heat pump, fancy new battery tech which can be charged to 100% and lasts a million miles, more capacity, more power. Best car that Tesla make now

What is your spec? This is what it shows without selecting any options, but some are pre-selected and can be removed (eg £2k for 20” wheels on the Model Y Long Range)

The Mazda MX-30 looks interesting, plugin 17.8kw battery that will do 53 miles electric only plus a 830cc rotary range extender giving a Granite approved no pissing on my watch range of 373 miles. Official mpg of 273

Rotary engines might be small but they have some fundamental thermodynamic efficiency problems. I like the fact that they're using it, but it does seem to be for size and smoothness reasons not for fuel economy.

They seem to be using it appropriately too - as a generator to recharge. Hence they can prevent the cold-start-switch-off flooding issues (that you definitely didn’t explain carefully to your wife, only for her to forget. Nope) which would undoubtedly occur if it was asked to respond more like other hybrids where the ICE drives the wheels.

As its a generator it may be more efficient if it's run at a fixed rpm. I'll be interested to find out more about it.
If you can charge at home that 50 mile ev range would cover the bulk of journeys for most people but without the usual range or infrastructure objections.

Just some late night pub chat and a viewpoint from someone more intelligent than me (granted that's not a high bar) on the Tesla price drop, however they've made a small fortune from Tesla stock so may be biased. Tesla make roughly $10,000 profit per car. Other manufacturers only a few thousand. If the others get involved in a price war and slash prices which they may have to they will hurt much more, possibly selling at a loss. Tesla have $21 billion cash on hand so are sitting comfortably for a few years. Could make life very difficult for many of these new EV manufacturers who don't have healthy cashflow especially as we may be going into a recession.

Or Tesla has been making more cars than they sold so have excess stock they need to sell. Hence the quick delivery times for the reduced-price cars.
