I’m not sure either party wants to be in power at the moment, because it’s looking likely that years of cuts/austerity/high-taxation are needed to recover from Covid etc. And we’re nowhere near the worst economy out there, so there’ll always be what-about-isms, but realistically we are starting from a reasonable position with what Sunak said during the last vote. Whether he sticks to it, or whether it even matters is another topic entirely!
Two years of governmental stability will be welcomed by most, especially with what is seen as a quite boring, risk-averse PM. From what I can gather, Starmer fits that role aswell but seems to want to increase our debts further, and I don’t think there’s an appetite for that currently.
I’m sort of hoping the Lib Dem’s can find a charismatic leader and have a strong middle wing manifesto, so then it wouldn’t be C or L constantly opposing each other but rather a reasoned, rational position on todays important matters. Not expecting it to happen, but hoping none the less!
