Yeah, this place is an old place (solid stone walls etc) so it loses heat fucking fast, which reeeeaaaally doesn't help....
It's annoying because all I ever have on are the lights, a laptop/telly and LED lights most of the time - I turn the heating on when it gets cold, it's not on a schedule, etc.
I should probably shop around, I suspect Scottish Power are taking the piss.

There's also quite a disparity in standing charge regionally. I don't know why as I've only just become aware of it but it seems wrong to me !
Re: Bye Bye Liz...
You’d hope so but how many times can they keep having a new PM before a General Election is forced?

Been watching a bit of the commons this afternoon, lively old afternoon in there.

Doubt it, she turned up and left again. Don't see why she'd turn up at all if she was doing that.

Fuck all else she's done has made sense....duncs500 wrote: Mon Oct 17, 2022 5:13 pm Doubt it, she turned up and left again. Don't see why she'd turn up at all if she was doing that.

Has it all fallen apart this evening? Just looking at r/ukpolitics on Reddit and it's all a bit chaotic with people resigning etc.
Some of the updates on The Guardian seem a bit crazy as well - https://www.theguardian.com/politics/li ... itics-live
How much lower does this all sink? It feels like the country is in a right mess.

The ads to support the guardian are getting pretty wild. I'm assuming you're all seeing the call to the 'tofu-eating wokerati' in there, slagging the government?

As a guestimate, a day rate that's double your permanent salary is a starting point. Double my salary ? Yes please ! It sounds like a lot but it isn't. Work backwards from there to see what your net income would be inside/outside IR35. Allow for holidays (if you like holidays), sickness (if you have weak genes), pension contributions, and anything else your employer pays for atm.Shlergen wrote: Wed Oct 19, 2022 8:52 pm Need to read up on inside ir35, based on the calculators it would suggest it isn't worth it unless the day rate is obscene.
In purely monetary terms it's probably still worth it, as long as you're 100% sure you'll be employed full time with no gaps between contracts. If a few months of no income is a problem then think very carefully because that will wipe out the difference quite quickly. Some you win, some you lose. I had one contract that lasted almost three years. WIn. I had a year where I was unemployed for nine months out of twelve. Lose.
A previous manger of mine gave me some good advice: If you want to climb the corporate ladder and be senior management you need to be an employee and "inside" the organisation in order to progress. If you want to be a technical person and shun the corporate stuff you'll make a lot more money as a contractor. That's a good way to look at it.

And if you want to make any money you have to be the employer…?
Re: Bye Bye Liz...
Yep that sounds spot on. Ergo I need to go outside of IR35Sundayjumper wrote: Wed Oct 19, 2022 9:33 pmAs a guestimate, a day rate that's double your permanent salary is a starting point.
