I would have a gold, facelift 75 v8, leave it looking standard, maybe even hide the exhaust tips, but tune the engine to a point where it’s actually worth having a big v8, ie 500+ bhp

Yeah, if I was to get a 75 it would be a later one. I’d be tempted to swap in an older 5.0 for easier tuning. Then wheel tubs, big tyres, supercharger and 9 sec quarter miles

I'd have a ZS190 tomorrow. One of the early ones with the stupid big wing.

A mate test drove one back in the day and reckoned it sounded great, steered nicely and had awesome brakes. Shame about the god-awful interior quality.

He got a Clio 182 in the end.

As noted a couple of posts back - the ZS was a 180 whereas it made 190 in the ZT.

Colleague had one - it sounded fantastic, and gripped and changed direction very well. I liked it a lot.

Going back to the Montego days Perkins had cheap deals on Rocwr cars for workers.

We had a lot of the Z cars in the car park but the larger 190s were always falling to bits with terminal engine issues.

The Rover 45 versions were the pick of the bunch imo.

Against better judgement, Id love to buy a ZT260 or even better the SV-R which did get the extra power as standard.

I live a stones throw from the former factory which is now mainly houses and a retail park, but still see a lot of the ex management cars around here, most of the late MGs seem well loved.

A guy in the village has a huge collection of MGs (and Holdens), here are two caught mating.

At the time, I expected it to be catastrophic as so many people worked at the factory and even more suppliers in the area.

They have made a decent job of redeveloping the factory, lots of housing and a retail park. I’m not someone who enjoys shopping but there is a great street food venue.

Almost retro these days and sound absolutely filthy with a few exhaust tweaks. I need to own a v8 at some point. Even the mrs has approved.

Anyone want a Mito?

E53 is a good call but budget for a bunch of suspension bushes etc. if they’ve not all been done already. It’s a big heavy car and those bits don’t have an easy life. And once you start, it’ll highlight the next weakness, then the next.

Been there, done that, then sold it when the gearbox started to show signs of dying….

I drove through Longbridge yesterday. It still looks very unfinished, and it's basically being developed as an out-of-town retail park plus housing estates, so doesn't really have a sense of place. Quite a useful destination for shopping if you're in the vicinity though.

Oh, I see. Birmingham has a very well defined centre so I think you're wrong about the sense of place. Most cities are a bit unfinished - London must be because there's always so much building going on

Not sure what you mean about the surrounding areas; Birmingham was formed from a number of villages expanding into a conurbation so there are plenty of villagey centres to the suburbs.

I've really enjoyed every X5 I've driven (had quite a few as courtesy cars/loaners), but I can only imagine how much could be lurking which needs sorted on one of those first-gen ones if its not been looked after.

It's fundamentally a jacked-up E39, so on the bright side there shouldn't be any problem getting parts.

I'm missing a trick by not recommending my own car though The 4.8 V8 in the Cayenne is quite nice too. And it has a proper low-range 'box with centre diff lock, which the X5 does not.
