A coupe is generally a 2 seater so won’t normally be the family car. When you have a big 5 door 4x4 but either an impractical sized box in the back or a sloped back which doesn’t take a lot then it just turns into a pointless thing.

Whilst the rear glass is clearly raked, I don’t really consider the Q8 as coupe-esque. It’s side profile is v similar to the std E-Tron (whereas the ETron sports back or whateverthefucktheycallit is ridiculous to me - for the reasons Dave notes above).

The Q8 is pretty practical too; I think the big difference is the Q7 can fit a third row of seats.

Agree entirely about cars like the BMW X4 and X6, the Merc GLC and GLE coupes and the E-Tron variants.

Not sure where I stand on the Cayenne Coupe, but I think it looks uglier than the normal Cayenne so wouldn't buy one.

To me, it seems to be all about the d pillar with SUVs. It can be sloped a bit and still look good.

If it's a just a continuation of the roof line then it looks wrong on an SUV. If it has a "corner" and turns downwards it looks ok.

This lotus doesn't really have a d pillar at all, just a really fat c pillar - which looks crap.

I bet - if someone put some batteries into something small, nimble, lightweight. Like - I dunno - an Elise? Maybe change the styling slightly just to differentiate it. I bet you’d soon be rich! Such a product would Shirley have interstellar appeal!

Hopefully it allows Lotus to make money to develop more interesting cars. I just worry that it's a pretty competitive market for these sorts of cars, what can Lotus offer over the established brands? We shall see.

Are they really going to sell that many of those, at that price, which will make a big difference to their bottom line? Given what else is out there and the market for people who want a matching SUV to go with their sports car, I'm not so sure.

i can't see it either - it's not like Porsche churning out tens of thousands of cash cow cayennes/Macans on already developed Audi/VW platforms. This will cost Lotus just as much to develop as any sports car and sell in just as small quantities.

I understand that the XC40 all electric and Polestar 2 share a lot and are both Geely owned - like Lotus.
