Launch is later today.

As it is an electric SUV however- I don’t expect massive excitement levels. Although it HAS to be more driver focussed. Some. How.

As @scotta just sent me this, I wanted to give you the opportunity to share the sense of mild passing interest…. :)

Hopefully it allows Lotus to make money to develop more interesting cars. I just worry that it's a pretty competitive market for these sorts of cars, what can Lotus offer over the established brands? We shall see.

I quite like it, but it's sad what Lotus had to lose in the process. If this had been in addition to the Elise, Exige, Evora and Emira, then many would be more forgiving.

It's a bit shit that this is what consumer demand dictates. It would have been awesome if Lotus made a lightweight EV with a 50kwh battery which did 350 miles but they've just done what everyone else is doing.

Is this even a proper UK engineered and built Lotus or is it a Chinese special with mostly Geely-fied Volvo bits underneath?
How about not having a sig at all?

It’s almost like they’ve all figured out that they can’t get that range with a 50kW battery, despite the weight that saves?

Apparently the 95kw battery on Mrs mik’s e-tron weighs 695kg.

Let’s assume the Lotus one is super lightweight at 600kg, so the rest of it must be around 1400kg if overall weight is just under 2 tonnes.

You recon that with a 300kg 50kW battery, you could get the same range? Even if you drop the 4wd you still have the same aerodynamic drag, losses through the tyres etc etc. I think that’s unlikely - even if you manage to pull it down to 1600kg total weight.

I never said sticking a 50kw battery in the same bloated 4x4 shape would get the same range.

(On a completely unrelated note, at Goodwood on the BMW EV stand the chap was saying that during testing they had an IX 50 (111kwh) mule on smaller alloys with just 215 section tyres which was doing over 400 miles real world range - which shows how much extra battery they need to pack just so they can still fit chunky tyres)

I appear to have missed your point then.

I thought they were going after the lucrative 4x4 market for teh $’s. I guess they could have shoved a 50kW battery in an Evija body for £less, and maybe got 350miles range, but I am not sure that would sell in the same numbers to JohnQCitizen?
