I'll rise to it!

I know quite a few people who got covid (pre vaccinations) - maybe around a year ago. all fit healthy young people with no pre-existing conditions.

One family of three (mum dad and toddler) were totally wiped out all at the same time, couldn't move from bed for days at a time. Sounded horrendous.

My brother and his family were similar - though theirs went through them one at a time. In bed for days - not good.

Most people who caught it back then seemed to have similar experiences - really bad flu like symptoms. Not so bad for a 30-40 year old but would have certainly killed someone like my mum who was going through cancer treatment.

Then there's the mythical long covid:

Well one of my best mates was super fit and was training for ultra-marathons etc.. caught covid, was ill for just one day, then has barely been able to run since and had to get an inhaler because his childhood asthma came back.

I'm damn glad that it's diluted itself to what it is now!

There's the rub. Anti THIS Vax isn't the same thing, and that's my point.

Long Covid isn't a myth, sadly. Former colleague who nearly fit your description (he only ran 5-10k/day), was knocked out for weeks and six months later he still had to have a sleep in the middle of the day to avoid crashing at 5.

Also, someone needs to have a word with Trudeau, he's losing the plot..
It stopped being about health a long time ago (like when Covid was actually serious).

My mates just got back from Andorra, one of them is positive so the rest will probably end up positive - he has a mild cold after going snowboarding and being on a plane in winter. This is normal to me.

Anyway @Rich B I'm glad you picked up on the ;) as I am sure it really is an inconvenience.

Theres no backtracking dude. At this current moment covid isnt serious. On the skiing group chat one of the lads has now been contacted by test and trace and told to isolate for 10 days. Thats the issue here - utter shite like that for nothing more than a cold. No wonder people are holding off travelling.

I see what you're saying - there's the long standing "Anti-Vax" movement who think, for example, MMR gives Kids Autism and that sort of thing - you know... Morons

(Virtual Fiver to the person who gets the reference... ;) )

Really ???

I was contacted by test and trace (off the back of my Passenger Locator Form) due to a close contact on the plane back from Germany and was told to just LFT for a week. No Isolation needed unless I started to develop symptoms.

Apparently if you fill in a questionnaire it tells you to nft for a week after telling you to self isolate. Farce.

Weird - I didn't have any of that - just pinged, asked to register on a portal and then informed to LFT for 7 days with no isolation

You sure your mate's not looking for a week of work ?? :)

The GP has basically left me in the hands of the Chesterfield based Long Covid clinic. GP is updated every month with whats going on and then sorts my limited hours sick note. I've had blood tests , chest xrays, heart traces and oxygen levels taken so far - all passed over to LC clinic. They have now assessed me and are requesting I'm passed over to Respiratory clinic for further investigation.

I'll give that article a read thanks GG _ much appreciated. I struggle to retain info though which is strange. I concentrate and pay attention but cannot keep new info in my head. But ask me about my late Dads numberplate from 1985 and it's there ( B979CWF) Random. Although I wonder if this because of the low oxygen levels I record ?
Thought i'd give an update as I know you're all losing sleep
Yesterday, 13 months since I caught that Covid thing I got discharged from hospital. After having lots of tests / MRi scans / lung function tests and finally heart scans the chest clinic have said I'm free to go. Pretty much "normal" life now, not been breathless for a good while so Long Covid appears to be over. ( Well apart from the unknown heart issues they've now discovered ! ) The chest clinic doctor thinks that it may have been a combination of factors that made Covid attack my body the way it did. Being generally run down from working long hours for weeks I had developed a slight cold ( this may have been the 1st warning sign of Covid attacking me, he wasn't sure ), then after that it went through my body attacking those areas that had been weakened previously. It's fascinating how it had attacked some areas and not others.
As I've said before I'm one of the lucky ones I guess. Previously fit and healthy ( no marathon runner but 25k steps a day in the Peak District fresh air is pretty healthy) and yet out of all the family it attacked me the most. It's left very little scaring on my body and from what we can see I'm over it. 8-)

It never was serious for anyone other than ill old people. You can keep on believing what you want and I'll happily let you

This isnt killing old people. The only person I see in the news with long covid is kate garraways husband so there cant be that many of those either. :D <-- this is sarcasm, not laughing at ill people.

As mentioned its the over reach of power thats more scary than any virus.

Cheers for the replies folks, I'm glad to be over it. Hopefully the heart issue is nothing serious as I'm now stranded in front of the TV with plantar fasciitis ( basically foots buggered after 25 k steps a day for 16 years !)

Good news: we have beaten covid, all it took was ignoring it, if only the world had relalised it was that simple 24 months ago.
