7.7 seconds to 60 according to wiki - and only 1330kg for the 2.2
Didn’t people say these things weighed as much as the titanic?

How about not having a sig at all?

My elise was quicker than my mates 2.5. His was a later si with 215bhp as well.GG. wrote: Thu Jul 19, 2018 11:56 am Not sure about this talk of the 2.2l in the Z4 not being slow... I had a mate with a 2.5 which was not very impressive performance wise for a roadster with sporting aspirations.
I actually put a deposit on a 3.0 Z4 when I had the e90 330i and when I test drove it I was also unimpressed with that compared to the e90 I owned - the response of the M54 was not on the same level as the N52 so I got my deposit back and decided to wait for a later 3.0si as I didn't want to swap to something with a worse engine (and of course I never ended up buying one!).

Ummmm...... a little bit ?
That's just based on my experience with my 530, where the nav needed updating, and there are loads of coding options to play with too.

Yeah, that’s the same as a GT86 isn’t it? Feels fine in a 4x4 or saloon but pretty lame in a “sports” car.

The neeeerd was meant to be hypocritical humour
Bear in mind I'm not going from a 330 to a z4 2.5 etc, it's from a 2.0td Mondeo into something that has a lot usable rev range, flexibility and some character.
So the minutiae are less likely to be relevant than the overall differences.

Yep - even my pre-LCI e90 330i with 258hp engine rather than later 272 was 6.1 to 60mph. 7.7 is 1980s performance. The Z4 3.0 I test drove was only 5.9 to 60 and it revved much less keenly, didn't sound as good and didn't have sports seats which are a must IMO as the standard ones again are rubbish for a sports car. To think I even travelled from London to Northampton to go and drive it because it looked like a nice exampleMito Man wrote: Thu Jul 19, 2018 12:44 pmYeah, that’s the same as a GT86 isn’t it? Yes but likely it will feel gutless with so little torque and without real grunt at the top end to make it worthwhile. I'd stay well away from anything with a <2.5 if I were you and see if you can get a 3.0 if at all possible.Beany wrote: Thu Jul 19, 2018 12:52 pm The neeeerd was meant to be hypocritical humour

ETA: this looks like a nice example for not very much more than your budget (with some haggling) https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified ... 0qw&page=1

i really want a shitty old limo like that - I don’t really know why, but it would be great for a boys trip away. I’d like it with two rows of bike racks on the roof!nuttinnew wrote: Sun Jul 22, 2018 2:21 pm 6cyl petrol rwd; https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1991-Mercede ... 0005.m1851

I don't bike so my thought had been a stretched roofbox.
Every now and then I think about a car like that to annoy people who park badly.

Slight refinement.Beany wrote: Tue Jul 17, 2018 6:03 pm Must be said, after having a reasonably torquey TD I'd like to have something with a reasonable bit of midrange shove, so the 2.2 six pot is out.
I'm thinking a simple E90 325c/i or an E46 330c/i would do the job - Z4s are all 2.5s and I can't find any sports in my price range with the nice seats/xenons/etc, whereas there are a few saloons. And ragtop isn't that necessary. And probably a PITA in winter if it's my only car.
I'll probably have more of a sniff around AT tonight and see what's aboot, then see if I can sort a test drive of something.
Discounting E90s as all the ones I can get a hold of would be early cars, and I've seen at least one with non-working iDrive etc. Later E46s should be more refined in that respect - software bugs, fit and finish etc should be sorted in later E46s.
So:
E46 330Ci manual for petrol smooth RWD NA coupe fun,
Or
E46 330d manual (possibly auto) for stupid available power, smoky turbot burnout fun.
I think longer term, once the power has worn off, the 330d would probably feel a bit flat and the 'better' engine in the 330i would be better to drive.
But an easy 300bhp/400lb-ft is a tempting concept.
Got a few options, will probably need to blag a day off work to check 'em.
So it sloooowly rolls on

Given the current crusade against smokey diesels, I definitely wouldn't be spending my own money on an old smokey diesel, especially one with a shonky remap

Cheers, Harry
Re: Beany's Seriously Impressive Pish and Drivel / Cars he wont buy thread..
Dat, Beany does seem to be a bit obsessed with the EPIC TORQUE you can get when you remap a derv though. I don't get it myself, just buy a 330i and carry on with life.integrale_evo wrote: Mon Jul 30, 2018 9:51 am Given the current crusade against smokey diesels, I definitely wouldn't be spending my own money on an old smokey diesel, especially one with a shonky remap![]()

Ah let's sit back and enjoy the show that will doubtlessly go on for months and months.
Oh - hey Beany - I had to put a little air in the tyres of the Toyota today so make sure you stay away from Land Cruisers.

You're talking to someone who has to "blag a day off work" to go and look at a new car.JLv3.0 wrote: Mon Jul 30, 2018 10:00 am Ah let's sit back and enjoy the show that will doubtlessly go on for months and months.

Me buying the RS4:
Mate of mine phones me up, says he wants to go look at F150s etc. He's on his way over to pick me up.
I think how funny it would be to make him go look at a car for me instead, just to annoy him really as after all he is one of my best mates.
See the Audi ad online, make him take me to see it, agree price to buy Audi, buy Audi.
My mate was sufficiently annoyed with me wasting his morning, when he was itching to do the showroom rounds, that he bought an F150 AND a Harley (I know - don't judge) that afternoon to get over it
Beany's way sounds fun as well, of course.

An entirely reasonable comparison of people of similar means and disposable income levels, living in the same country and with similar lifestyles. No, wait...JLv3.0 wrote: Mon Jul 30, 2018 10:19 am Me buying the RS4:
