It's just marketing crap and nothing new.
Back in the i3 days BMW partnered with Chargemaster at which point BP bought it out and renamed it Polar, now it looks like they've rebranded to Pulse again but I imagine they're still the same old crap chargers which are out of service half the time with 1 fitted at each petrol station...

Edit: It's also legislated large petrol stations must have EV chargers installed, so yeah, we will see a sudden increase of chargers but it's due to legislation rather than the generosity of large car firms and oil producers

BP have had a complete internal re-organisation that they have termed as a 'pivot' away from oil & gas, to the point where they have 99% done away with all of their exploration staff. So things are changing quite quickly.
